I mean…I wouldn’t expect an abolitionist to agree with an analysis that says abolition doesn’t cut it.

‘Anyone who is [most humans on earth]’ is too big a category for me to make a useful recommendation. Are you reading for a certain purpose? For example, to understand a specific issue, deepen some relationship, help decide on a course of action, or just feel good?
I’m not an abolitionist because “abolition” doesn’t go far enough. It’s no accident that abolitionists mostly talk about “abolishing” visibly repressive arms of the state but not so much the nation-state system in its entirety, or the European cultural base it rests on. Most of them shy away from even fighting to abolish the nation-state they live in because then they wouldn’t be able to demand policy changes from it.
Apparently it’s not working, but there’s discussion of alternatives here.
Same, including the “been trying for days” part.
Kuwasi Balagoon went the fuck off in his trial statements.
That does seem like it would cover some cases. In my case, I’m noticing this with instances I’m fairly confident my base instance federated with, because other posts from the instances are visible to me. For example, I didn’t get a notification for your reply, but looking from Beehaw I was able to paste the link and find it that way. For other instances, I have no luck trying the same thing, even if I try pasting the post or the community first, despite having other posts from the same time period and instances accessible to me.
A practice like allowing or disallowing downvotes cannot on its own be judged “healthy” or “unhealthy”.
This is a terrible thread. The skip from the 11th century to the 20th is particularly glaring because it completely ignores the Qing conquest (as in empire-building, forcible takeover, war) of Xinjiang in the 18th and 19th centuries. That’s the time period when the term ‘Xinjiang’, whose English translation makes the colonial process even more evident, was coined! The thread then goes on and on about “separatism” (taking the position that the status quo political entity should remain whole for granted) and “extremism” (extremely what?) mostly by discussing the political associations of some Uyghur autonomist groups and otherwise using typical ‘war-on-terror’ talking points. I could go on but this is just one comment.
The biggest problem with it is what isn’t discussed which is the power dynamics between mostly Han, mostly non-Muslim political authorities and recent immigrants (colonizers in this case) and their descendants versus mostly non-Han, mostly Muslim historical inhabitants (indigenous peoples in this case). People should do their own research about these things, starting from before the CPC’s victory over the KMT, and come to their own conclusions about what’s happening from a historically informed position.
Lastly this is an opportunity for the local mods to clarify what counts as “hate speech, bigotry, propaganda, etc”. What guidelines if any are mods using to identify these things? To me this is plainly colonial propaganda, informed by anti-Muslim bigotry (though I don’t know if OP is personally a bigot, or really care).
I just got this same thing twice now whenever I try to view a post outside my instance (which is problematic since federation is not working well right now). “CrowdSec Access Forbidden”
There are some recommendations in the comments here.
OP, I’m sure you’re well aware that Africa is not a country. Yet all you managed to list under “Countries” for Africa was…Africa. Baraza has had numerous country-based communities since before this post went up, so I’m not sure why you thought that was an acceptable placeholder, as you didn’t do the same for any other regions.
@mwalimu@baraza.africa: For your consideration.
I don’t think using this tool prevents that from happening.
His Wikipedia page makes it clear that it’s about social capital as in most fields.
Some feedback to see if this is similar for others. First I tried searching ‘skypictures’ and only this post came up. Then I tried ‘!skypictures@lemmy.ml’ and got nothing. Lastly I tried ‘sky pictures’ and it appeared, but with only one post instead of two.
I might be experiencing something similar. I saw different posts under “All” before and after logging in, even using the same sort (“New”). But in both cases I’m viewing from my home instance.
Update: For example, I subscribe to !socialism@beehaw.org and saw multiple posts from my home instance before logging in, but now only one is showing up.
I’m noticing the same thing for some (but not all) subscriptions to communities on other instances. I’ll try retrying for some of them though, hadn’t considered it.
Update: Not sure if I’m just lucky but clicking ‘Subscribe Pending’ then resubscribing appears to have fixed all of them.
There was another post about them abandoning all their Mastodon instances for a while (like over a month) until a bunch of people complained but I’m not sure how to find it. I think this article is from before that happened.
Who are the abolitionists you follow? By using the word “follow” I’m guessing you’re talking about highly visible or well-known abolitionists, but correct me if I’m wrong.
