Hey at least there’s posters on the wall and an attempt to make the space livable! And he offered her a cold drink!

I loved hanging out with the single bachelors in my slut phase, but good lord, most of those guys were very content with a single chair and a TV in their apartment and only those things.

Have to admit, before I wanted a partner, I needed to build a proper “nest” to impress any potential mates. Got a home theater setup. All the right accoutrements and candles. Nice dishes, furniture, the works. I had designs to slay so much after I was done with the place. The only person I ever brought home ended up marrying me.

Before that? Mattress on the floor. One desk and chair for the computer. Didn’t even have a TV.

This is the advice men need to hear. Cleanliness and a hand towel go a long way, too. Also no one wants to fuck in a smelly apartment, clean your damn cat box.

It can be very practical to live like that when you’re on your own! I get it haha.

Maybe it is genetic. My uncle did interior design for a living. To be honest, it was both difficult and easy at the same time because I knew what kinda colors I liked but needed to pick a scheme that said “responsible adult you want to fuck”. What’s hilarious is that my partner and I am not home decorator people. Current home is definitely not something you’d see in a magazine. It was easy to spruce up a little studio apartment, more effort when the space is a lot bigger lol

I always liked hosting people. So even when I had trouble getting dates (most of my 20’s), I still kept my place in a condition that was good for having people over, and regularly had friends and family over. Plus I always had roommates so my home would always be a place where at least some social interaction would occur.

So it’s kinda wild to me to hear about people not having their apartments in a condition where people they liked and trusted could see and give feedback.

My partner is rather autistic and part of that is not caring about how his surroundings look. Very practical person. He doesn’t understand why I like having our house decorated, but he does understand that it makes me happy and he likes when I’m happy. It works out nicely sometimes!

            An unexpected, but pleasant surprise!

My ex had very strong opinions about how our house should look - strong enough to push all of my wants out of the way - so this is a nice soft place to be in the aftermath :)

It’s not that we were content, it’s simply what we could afford.

That’s the reality of late stage capitalism, it can take years until you can save enough money for the basics. I couldn’t afford a couch until I was 30! Until then I had to put up with lawn chairs and bean bags. My credit card limit was only $500 when I was young, and we didn’t have Affirm yet because it was the early 2010s; if I didn’t have the cash, I couldn’t buy it! So needless to say, decorations aren’t exactly the priority when you can’t even afford furniture!

Nah, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m not separate from these bachelors that I was seeing, I’m not independently wealthy because I kept more than 1 towel in my apartment, and I’m the same age as them.

These were deliberate choices to keep things very minimal without any thoughts to having guests over.

I had an ex-girlfriend who had grown up in her father’s antique shop and inherited all his shit when he died. Watching Antiques Roadshow with her was a trip because she knew the value of everything almost to the exact dollar. However, this had greatly distorted her perception of the acceptability of some things. She had an authentic “Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer” poster from the 1930s and I had to convince her that she couldn’t just put that shit up over her mantelpiece and expect to have friends.

Fun fact I been using some variant of vaultdweller 13 as a username since I was 12 since I played NV fell in love and then played 1 and 2 and got an isometric rpg addiction. Sadly unlike other classic Fallout fans I am neither a Slavic millennial or trans so I have little to distract from the isometric rpg withdrawal symptoms.

Atom RPG, wasteland 3, etc. Not as old school isometric, but the vibe is almost there. I do miss the quirky humor, though. It is a shame the TV show is as campy as it is. Fallout 4 was all the dumb mechanics that weren’t the game. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll ever get a NV2 or the vibe of NV set in a different location.

Too late played through those games, I require more. I’ve also played through Wasteland 1 in a deluded fevor state when I got covid.

Also yeah I doubt we’ll ever get a NV again especially with how Bethesda seems dead set on doubling down on the camp, which is honestly a shame because for all its flaws Fallout 3 has a pretty good balance of goof and grimness. Maybe we could get something akin to that if Owlcat were to make a post apocalyptic game since they do 40k pretty well without too much grimderp encroachment. Also play Roguetrader and Wrath of the Righteous if you haven’t, real fucken solid games and don’t worry about the devs being Russian they fucked off to Cyprus early in the war.

No problem, frankly speaking they are not given nearly as much credit despite being really solid devs since their games are relatively linear at least compared to what they are inspired by. Honestly I don’t really mind since too many CRPGs have a bit too much openness resulting in a confusing experience like their first major game Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Also they are making a Dark Herasy game which is neat, hope it has an All Guardsman Party reference.

Also another recommendation I forgot about, Arcanum it was made by the same devs as Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines who also happened to be Interplay alumni meaning it’s got the same weird crackhead energy as Fallout 2 but instead of the Enclave being obviously based off of the Nazis you get literal 19th century steampunk eugenics. Games great 10/10 will shoot wizard with elephant gun again.

Artist is named KAWS. The artist is a contemporary artist that uses brand icons, like the Mickey Mouse looking statue on the desk. It’s all very cheap and empty art that I guess some people eat up. He basically just slaps the stupid skull on everything and calls it “art”. Tons of merchandising, very capitalistic.

I updated my response to you, but the artist is very notoriously apolitical and really has no message behind their art. Their art basically only exists to sell collectibles and merchandise while appearing trendy. It’s all empty capitalistic garbage.

I didn’t recognize it but that’s because I forgot I read an article on this guy. Probably because he is forgettable. In fact I think this is at least the third time I’m reading about him and then forgetting he existed. Pop artist 60 years late to the pop art party, seem trying to get Beeple level attention but only willing to put Jeff Koons level effort into it. Annoyingly, with much success.

So now knowing who it is, that’s the third strike that sells the comic. He only has one figurine on display, and he probably wants to make an impression, so he thinks this one by a ‘cool subversive contemporary artist’ makes him look grown-up and a man of culture.

People are attracted to these characters because they are well written tortured souls not petty misanthropes. Joker suffers from untreated mental illness and an unrequited quest for acceptance that is relatable but something that most simply internalize and suffer with. Like Thanos there is an element of relatable humanity there but with which he reacts in the most horrible of ways.
Thanos seems almost doomed to exist. Someone or something keyed the universe to have an option to partially destruct. That this is possible via a specific programmed sequence of events implies that it was meant to happen at some point. Thanos feels the time is now - that survival requires this destruction and that he is called to enact it. Its intentionally unclear whether he is acting through evil or that his innate power calls upon him to bear a cross of necessity that serves a greater good through a horrible act.

Also it’s just fun because they are make-believe, they aren’t hurting anyone or actively encouraging anyone to do harm. It’s like being repulsed by someone playing violent videogames - such a superficial empty judgment to pass.

I married a man who likes Dragon Ball Z enough to have several of the mangas, so don’t get me wrong here. Some of this stuff doesn’t necessarily bother me personally, but there’s a certain reputation that fans of the Joker get and picking Thanos of all the Marvel characters is a choice.

Gaming is hit or miss - if someone is into gaming so much that all of their decorations are gaming related, it begs the question if they are willing to make enough time in their life for you around their hobby. And I say this as a gamer myself. It’s known to be a hobby that people dedicate a lot of time toward.

Well, probably not knitted, since her outfit is quite light, but you get the idea.
