Hey at least there’s posters on the wall and an attempt to make the space livable! And he offered her a cold drink!

I loved hanging out with the single bachelors in my slut phase, but good lord, most of those guys were very content with a single chair and a TV in their apartment and only those things.

Have to admit, before I wanted a partner, I needed to build a proper “nest” to impress any potential mates. Got a home theater setup. All the right accoutrements and candles. Nice dishes, furniture, the works. I had designs to slay so much after I was done with the place. The only person I ever brought home ended up marrying me.

Before that? Mattress on the floor. One desk and chair for the computer. Didn’t even have a TV.

This is the advice men need to hear. Cleanliness and a hand towel go a long way, too. Also no one wants to fuck in a smelly apartment, clean your damn cat box.

It can be very practical to live like that when you’re on your own! I get it haha.

Damn, maybe you found your alternative career if the current one fails!

It’s not that we were content, it’s simply what we could afford.

That’s the reality of late stage capitalism, it can take years until you can save enough money for the basics. I couldn’t afford a couch until I was 30! Until then I had to put up with lawn chairs and bean bags. My credit card limit was only $500 when I was young, and we didn’t have Affirm yet because it was the early 2010s; if I didn’t have the cash, I couldn’t buy it! So needless to say, decorations aren’t exactly the priority when you can’t even afford furniture!

Nah, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m not separate from these bachelors that I was seeing, I’m not independently wealthy because I kept more than 1 towel in my apartment, and I’m the same age as them.

These were deliberate choices to keep things very minimal without any thoughts to having guests over.

My mother filled my apartment with furniture and nice pictures. Made me look normal. I never understood why until my eventual wife came over and then moved in. The space is very important

My partner is rather autistic and part of that is not caring about how his surroundings look. Very practical person. He doesn’t understand why I like having our house decorated, but he does understand that it makes me happy and he likes when I’m happy. It works out nicely sometimes!

            An unexpected, but pleasant surprise!

My ex had very strong opinions about how our house should look - strong enough to push all of my wants out of the way - so this is a nice soft place to be in the aftermath :)
