Drake is very charming. Everything else is just kinda okay. The action is kinda floaty, the platforming feels like it’s on rails, jump to a disapproved section and you die, the supernatural stuff always feels out of place, the story isn’t memorable, some artifact or something.

Automation games like Factorio, Satisfactory, etc. I have tried. Everyone makes them seem like the most addictive form of digital crack there is. I just can’t get into them. They feel too much like work to me. Please tell me where the fun is that I am clearly missing
Seems to me that you’re not missing any fun. It’s just that the gameplay that fans of the factory building genre find entertaining, you don’t. For me it’s the fun of an ever growing interconnected mesh of production lines. It’s like a series of complex puzzles that are based on how I solved the ones before. And trains… I love trains.
Personally I just can’t get into Souls-likes. I’ve tried several times and none of them have ever clicked for me.
Not a fan of FPS. I have played my fair share of them when I was a teenager since it’s all my friends would play, but today I simply can’t stand any of them anymore

Life is stressful enough already; games are for having fun and I don’t find stress very fun.You know how Neo at the end of the Matrix finally understood how everything works? When he counters every move Smith makes with ease despite getting his ass kicked just moments earlier at the train station.
That’s the feeling we get from soulsgames when we overcome a challenge.
I tried Wukong, got through the first chapter and then some. You can tell it’s a good game. I enjoyed the mechanics, the story, everything well put together. I wanted to have fun. I just never really did. Also any sense of accomplishment was pretty much just a sense of relief after beating a boss.
Oh yeah I tried that and totally got the same vibe. I got my ass kicked by the first wolf boss before looking up how to beat him. Then I got to the next area where there were a lot more strong enemies and I was like “nah, I’m out.”
I was gonna say golf without considering what local universe this is.
Old RPGs.
They shouldn’t be popular, they should be wildly popular.
I love old RPGs but they’re too grindy for me now or something.
Like I bought the Final Fantasy Tactics remake. Original is easily my favorite game of all time. And a HUGE Quality of Life improvement the remake added was the ability to fast forward the gameplay and the cutscenes (IYKYK).
Every time I try to pick up my 2nd all time favorite FF6(Snes) I find myself losing interest after my 10th random encounter. I like the story, the characters, the music(!), the puzzles/exploration. Defs not bored of the game, haven’t beaten it (again) for like 15 years now.
But the gameplay itself, sadly, just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Like I burned many hours on my gameboy colour playing Dragon Warrior. Can still hear the music for Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger in my head. So it’s not like I never liked the genre.
Back when I could only afford a game every once in a while oldschool rpgs were great. They took forever and some had decent replayability (like pokemon or classes in FF). Nowadays they just feel like a slog.
As a D&D grognard since 1980 I’m baffled by why people think they have to keep upgrading to the newest version of everything, complaining about what’s wrong with it, and depending on a company to fix it. There are other ways to make choices in life besides clicking on menu options.

Most super mainstream games especially ones that are loosely based on reality in the modern era GTA, COD for example. I’m not saying these are bad as games, but they are so RIDICULOUSLY popular and I do not see the appeal.
I have a strong preference for co-operative games, so I don’t really understand the attraction of non-team based PvP games like battle royales, extraction shooters, or just straight death matches like in quake or CoD. Like why would you want to be cold and alone with everyone out to get you when you could have friends.
Have you ever enjoyed any game that’s mostly played one on one like rock paper scissors, tennis, poker, chess, go, cup stacking, most sports you see in the olympics. In one on one PvP games, you usually make friends too
Not really, I always preferred stuff that involved a group. The closest I get is board and card games, but they have an element of randomness that takes away the individual competition and makes it more of a social activity.
Deep rock galactic, tried playing with friends a few times and holy shit I would rather watch grass grow. I have never played a game that made me disassociate to that extent.
Also the endless repetition of a few extremely unfunny lines by the fans reminds of Rick and Morty fans.
Kingdom Hearts. Goofy and Sephiroth in the same room together breaks my brain, and not in a fun way. I played the first game when it came out on PS2 and decided it wasn’t for me.
I’ve seen story breakdowns of the other games on YouTube and figured I’m not missing anything. Lots of setups and plot hooks that don’t go anywhere or go somewhere stupid.
Your take is entirely accurate but I still love this game. I couldn’t even tell you why. Maybe it’s nostalgia.
Disney is popular. Final Fantasy is popular. Put them together and apparently you get something that sells, but for me the concept is less like chocolate and peanut butter and more like peanut butter and pickles.
Basically any battle royale game, they’re marginally fun with friends but they’ve always felt way too repetitive and frustration-inducing for me to ever pay much mind to them. It definitely doesn’t help that the most obvious example (Fortnite) is essentially the epitome of consumer-bait
I havent got enough time to get good enough to enjoy them. You wait for a game. You wait in the lobby while everyone runs at you playing all the sound effects all the time. You choose a place to drop from the bus. You desperately look for a weapon but then XxiSnipezZzxX_TTV fucks you up in 0.75 seconds then dances on your body.
Then you can wait for another game.
Mario 35 was really fun though. Still mad Nintendo killed it.
League of fucking legends. Why… The repetitiveness and toxic community especially… Just dont get it.
Competitive (e)sports are usually repetitive to a certain degree. I wouldn‘t call League very repetitive anyway. It’s mostly the same map, yes, but football and chess are also always on the same „map“. With 160+ champs and their interactions and the strategizing aspect of it, I never felt like a match was going like another.
The players are mostly insufferable (like in other competitive games) and League‘s too much of a timesink due to average game time.
