This looks like they want to stop people from using encrypting clients, so they can continue to read your mail and create targeted ads.

App Passwords are not going away:

So it’s not quite as bad as “blocking all third party mail clients”. Still, a bit of a dick move.

I can understand why they are doing it, though. Looks like they are pushing 2FA harder. Given what I have seen recently, that seems highly prudent.

Agreed, but it still feels somewhat inconsiderate (at least), and the only reason they can get away with doing it this way is because of their size.

I mean, it really feels like they decided they finally have a good cover for screwing over small, independent e-mail clients.

    This is textbook anticompetitive behaviour.

Fine option too, I don’t recall why I chose tutanota over protonmail but yeah

Really? I can. I’m trying to move away from Gmail, but in the meantime, K9 can connect to it with an app-specific password.

I stopper using gmail on my Android with IMAP because every few month I had to play with some random “security” setting to get it to work. Fuck that shit.

I used to have that issue with kmail, until I realised I needed to select the oauth option when logging in.

            oauth option

which might go away if the K-9 devs are forced to pay a yearly and expensive security audit to keep it.
