I’ve never understood that kind of service, getting others to shop for you sounds like way more of a hassle than just doing it yourself, is this some kind of american thing because their closest grocery store is three hours away by car or something?
I live in a place that had almost zero public transportation 8 years ago. 8 years ago I developed epilepsy and temporarily lost my driver’s license due to this condition. The closest grocery store is 7 miles away and I live far from family and friends so grocery shopping was nearly impossible at times. Grocery delivery was one of my only ways to get food. It can be useful in more scenarios than you can imagine.
I’m working 8-5, 6-10 for the next 6 weeks. Sometimes it’s helpful to have basic groceries at your door.
They did used to offer similar services between the 1950s and 1990s - just low-tech. You’d tell the milkman and the grocer what you wanted and it’d be on your doorstep at 7am in the morning.
a friend of mine thoroughly appreciates that he can order groceries for pickup and save the time wandering the store finding things and checking out. I understand that
Covid made it a huge thing, now it’s more convenient than necessary. Or sometimes you’re not sober 🤷
If you don’t own a car, or can’t drive (at the moment) for some other reason, in a lot of suburbs in the US you literally don’t have a choice.
Where I live in Germany there’s also a lot of supermarket delivery, but they’re generally picked and delivered by people working directly for the supermarket, not random gig economy dudes of the street, so since they have access to the stores inventory system they will automatically know what is available (and since the order app also has that access, you can’t even order anything the supermarket already doesn’t have in inventory at the time of ordering), and either automatically cancel, automatically substitute or send you a notification to pick an option if something is out.

Which is sometimes unfortunately accurate. Every horrible insta experience has been a dude. It hasn’t been many, but when I ask for frozen pizza, no you can’t swap it out for frozen peas. I get that they share a lot of letters, but c’mon.
there’s gotta be some sort of factor where low effort men gravitate to Instacart and low effort women gravitate to other jobs. I don’t readily accept that men are just shittier, considering my own experience is rather equal

as a related note, I’m not sure if we’ve had one successful male project manager at work. I think we have a couple now and at least one of them is doing well, but prior to that none of them lasted more than half a year and didn’t do well in that time. I think we’re approaching the half year mark on one of the men now. the women seem to be the only ones that can keep up with the shitstorm and put up with the abuse from all sides. I sure as fuck couldn’t/wouldnt. read into that what you will about how people are treated in that work environment, and specifically how women are treated and how they deal with it.
So if patriarchy doesn’t provide women proper experience in leadership roles, your logic also makes it ok to say this:

It’s very sexist but man I don’t know wtf is up. Every single time it’s a masuline name my groceries are picked horribly and super common things are magically out of stock. One time I ordered tampons and the person with the masuline name got me Poise pads instead. THOSE THINGS ARE THICC AF FOR BLADDER LEAKS!!. 😭 Dude just grab a different brand of tampons, they all have the same logic of L, R, and S.

It’s a fairly lighthearted stab at how young men often lack basic life skills. In a patriarchal society, we’ve perhaps grown too accustomed to the women in our lives doing a lot of things for us because “men bring home the bacon, women keep things in order at home”. Moms when we’re young, then girlfriends, wives.

Don’t know when this was originally posted since it lacks a timestamp, but yes there were like 2-3 weeks in a row recently where there were no tomatoes in the store (other than cherry tomatoes)
