Seriously every other post, every sub seems like nothing but politics. It’s so boring and disgusting. What made reddit great at one time was the diversity of genres and depth. Lemmy is very shallow and politically motivated it seems. I have been here since the Reddit exodus. It’s always been this way.
Do different Lemmy servers have different content?
Are certain severs curated?
Where do I find the depth and deep subject matter.
Because everything is politics
There is a degree of anount.
I’d say my Reddit subs are similarly set up to my Lemmy communities.
My feed is 80% (US) politics or (F)OSS politics even on stuff that is neither of them in the first place.
Reddit on the other hand was more like 20% potentially political, 75% random stuff like memes or niche sub posts and 5% political/story time subs.Sadly the reddit feed became almost unusable. The r/sysadmin feed is atrocious.
Most of us aren’t so privileged that we get to pretend that politics doesn’t control and shape the course of our lives.
Because:

Why is all of Lemmy politics?
Do you know why the Lemmy platform and the lemmy.ml instance were created in the first place?
Lemmy is very shallow and politically motivated it seems.
Politics is orthogonal to depth. The existence of shallow politics in no way suggests the absence of deep politics.
You can curate your own feed: use the block button for any communities you don’t want to see.
As for why there’s a lot of politics on lemmy: The west’s leading country just threatened to annihalate an entire civilization yesterday. Kind of a lot going on right now.
So you fled one billionaire-owned political echo chamber for an open-source lefty platform only to realize you actually just miss cat pics and woodworking tutorials.
Boring and disgusting? Sounds like you just don’t agree with lefty politics.

Its not that I don’t agree with left politics at all. I just am bombarded with anything political overall on Lemmy. I am less concentrated on whether I agree and more into the creativity and education side of content I think. I will try the blocking of keywords feature to tone it down. I don’t mine some. Just not every post or 3.
Everything is political, and Lemmy was made as an alternative to Reddit based on ideological reasoning in favor of FOSS and federation. Lemmy was made by communists, and there are a ton of us communists here as a consequence.
It is not. Subscribe to the feeds you want the view only subscribed. There are several views.

What kind of silly baby are you?
All life is politics. Go play with your Legos, baby man.
Legos
Even legos are politics, did you seen the Iranian lego videos?
You’re on .ml it’s literally Marxist Leninist. You’re like an American standing in Mexico complaining about everyone speaking Spanish.
To be fair, Lemmy.ml just has lots of MLs, Lemmygrad.ml is the actual ML instance. Also to be fair, many instances do have strong political views as a part of their identity.
And also many people joined ml as they saw it as the default instance.
Yep, Lemmy.ml isn’t actually something that can be categorized as “cleanly ML.”
When I was with the reddit exodus . ML was the computer, dev, tech instance so I leaned that way. Other than that I did not choose any instance for a particular reason or view. It was just a larger server maintained by real computer users. Only. world was larger. Now there are many servers to choose.
Fair
It’s literally Mali. Having alternate country codes is just a way to take advantage of countries with less of a presence on the internet to be able to get better domain names and at a lower price. .ml specifically was given away for free.
The worst, I think, is .io since the profits of those domains should go to the chagossians, but it just goes to the British government.
Lemmy (and other fediverse services) users are mostly here because we have some strong opinions about mainstream social media, and those opinions are tied closely to politics these days.
If we didn’t, we’d probably be on Reddit, xitter, Facebook, etc. instead.
And if you get a bunch of people with strong opinions about something together, there’s a good chance the conversation is going to go in that direction sooner or later.
And like others have said, everything is politics, basically every aspect of life can be tied to politics in some way.
And there is a lot of political stuff going on all around the world that everyone really should be concerned about and following, and there’s a lot to discuss about it.
And I get it, it can be exhausting. I definitely wish I lived in a world where I didn’t have to pay as much attention to politics as I do.
The best thing you can do is to be active in communities you want to see have more activity. If no one’s posting the kind of “non-political” content you want to see, be the person posting it, if you build it they will come. Be the change you want to see.
In general, all Lemmy servers have the same content as every other one because they’re federated. There are some cases where instances have defederated from each other, and admins have done bans and such that I think may change what content is available to you
Also you’re on .ml, which is a pretty explicitly political instance. I don’t know all the technical details but I’m also under the impression that the mods and admins there are pretty quick to bring their ban-hammer down hard on people who disagree with them, so that could potentially be having some effect of what you’re able to see, though things are certainly looking pretty political from over here on .world too.
The main reason people moved out of reddit was a political one lol, of course we are going to get political here.
If you haven’t notice yet, the world is burning. It’s burning due to the actions of rich political people. That’s really important. People tend to talk about stuff like that.
Comment section of this post is not beating the allegations
Umm ok? Yeah, politics are being discussed everywhere. That’s because politics are important. People trying to bury their heads in the sand and pretend they’re not are a big part of why things are going to hell.
If you don’t like political posts, don’t read them.
If you don’t like political posts, don’t read them.
If only it were that simple. These nerds pop up all over the place. Like when I posted about the World Cup, nothing but politics-nerds in the comments: https://lemmy.ml/post/45406364
There’s only 1 (possibly 2, depending on how strictly you define politics) root comments on that linked post related to politics.
