    Africa, Asia, and South America

So we are not counting North-America, where the ICE raids continue then?

If America is one continent, then Afro-Eurasia is also one continent.

Depends on which third grade. Some countries learn about America as one continent in e.g. a six-continent model. Which I think is silly given the obvious first continental divide to go would be the Eurasian one that only exists for historical reasons.

America makes sense for historical reasons as well. After all it is a massive settlers colony of different European nations. The Spanish influence very much connects both continents, if you want to do that.

This is the correct model. America developed very similarly, unlike parts of Eurasia which is why Europe and Asia are definitely culturally distinct, but America isn‘t. At least not for a lot of us.

Sorry „north“ Americans, but you‘re not that different from Argentinians to us.

Developed very similarly? On what time scale? Inuit, Salish, Cherokee, Aztec, Inca, and Rapa Nui are all pretty distinct. Post-colonialism there’s lots of differences between French, English, Spanish, and Portugese influence. And topographically the North Andes are a pretty solid border (though in many ways it makes more sense to extend out to the coast).

This entirely depends on where in the world you are from.

The English-speaking world generally refers to America as two continents.
The Spanish-speaking world generally refers to America as one continent.

Neither are correct, both are correct.

People who want a free Palestine don’t and have never supported Trump, I don’t know why liberals keep parroting this.

Also “where are they” in the anti-ICE actions and similar movements (plenty in No Kings), you can easily see Palestine flags and the like if you actually paid attention to local movements

The harris campaign decided to be pro-war and buddy up with incredibly unpopular warmonger dick cheney.

She put no significant distance between her foreign policy and trump’s. If you really think lemmy lefties are the reason harris lost then you probably haven’t been outside in a long time

          https://lemmy.ca/comment/12663066

Biden/Harris are extremely pro war. Every candidate including and since Obama (gave top 2 spots to HRC and Biden). The worst thing about Biden, beside demonic warmongering on Russia, is how friendly and respectful he is to Republicans and Netanyahu. They just walk all over him in return.

          https://lemmy.ml/comment/14842143

Funnily enough the very same argument also can be used for Harris and genocide, immgirant oppression, warmongering and everything else here.

          this one is my favorite

          https://lemmy.ml/post/21494718

They’re using synpathy towards people suffering genocide to try and coral people to the polls. I’ve seen this before. What happened with Roe V Wade? Why are kids still in cages at the border? Why is minimum wage still so low?

Madam Vice President, too little has been done on issues that were previously promised. I cannot take these people at their word.

Want my vote? End support now. It’s been a year of genocide with you at the right hand of Biden. All those lives lost happened on your watch. I will not be duped into voting for someone who has been complicit in commiting genocide, who is now promising to stop that same genocide because it happens to coincide with their political goals.

I will not support a genocide, on the promise of it being ended, only to wake up on January 21st just to hear 'Well, the situation is more complicated than just simply ending support, but I vow…!"

You’ve had a year to end it, and too little has been done to stop it. I will not vote for a genocidal candidate. I will not say that I support genocide by voting for these people. I will not be an accomplice.

It’s sickening to think that they probably allowed the genocide to continue just to use it as a carrot to lead people to the ballot box, all the while lining the pockets of the military industrial complex.

Fuck off with your promises, you’re in the White House now.

this particular user, halykthered@lemmy.ml, hasn’t been active since March 2025. 🤔 I wonder if they accomplished their mission.

You have, interestingly enough, searched for a random Lemmy user that neither I nor you can verify as anyone at all, and decided they are the Avatar of Palestinian Activists™. If I wanted to waste your time I could easily find a Harris deadend account on any website who says heinous things and ask why they are clearly Literally You.

Meanwhile, you have neglected to mention how the comment of “where did the activists go??” is stupid and easily disproven by existing in reality. Why did you do this?

              where’s the proof?

              shows proof

              not good enough!

I have a feeling I could find whatever “proof” you’re looking for and you would still reject it because you refuse to admit that there were (are) Free Palestine supporters who echoed MAGA bullshit to redirect votes away from Harris in some foolish hope that those votes would go to independent candidates.

A single Lemmy user does not represent a massive movement involving millions of people and you know it.

You don’t want to have proof, you want to slander People Who Do Things by saying that random internet users are the reason for American Fascism, instead of acknowledging that: a) most Palestinian activists voted for Harris (you can see statistics on this, instead of the anecdotes you claim as “proof”) b) like most campaigns, the Harris campaign lost (to an idiot fascist, no less!) because it failed to convince the majority of voters (who aren’t activists at all, but politically apathetic) to vote for it.

You do not care, though, you want to scapegoat and blame anyone except for your favorite genocidal politicians and fascists for the current state of the US, despite the fact this has been building for decades. You are someone who would’ve comfortably ignored most problems under Harris, and are more offended that you might be personally affected by oppression this time, instead of reading about it on the news and shrugging. This is fine; what is not fine is blaming people who decried such oppression then and now, who are far more serious about handling fascism than you, someone who thinks resistance is when you cry about losing useless neoliberal #1000 (nowhere to be seen right now, BTW) on the internet instead of Doing Things.

You claim to care about “echoing MAGA bullshit” but echo their lack of giving a shit for people who are suffering under Your Team. To say there are Palestine supporters who have bad ideas is like saying there are liberals who have bad ideas! Wow, some people in these massive movements are dumb!? My goodness, clearly they are all responsible for Trump! Time to not reflect on the systems I support whatsoever!

Same with Cuba right now. The US claims to be concerned about Cuba’s democratic deficits and human rights violations. All while ignoring their own democratic backsliding and ICE’s gestapo-like racial cleansing of the population.

I’m convinced that MAGA is attracting many people who live a rough life. Poorly educated, resentful, low income people whose attention is fixed on the next paycheck and the cost of groceries. Again and again, I see that many of them seem to view society as a zero sum game. Meaning “if those foreign looking people get punished now, I will surely be better off next month, right???”

The problem is systemic. I blame the chronic failure of political education across the country. Because of that, I do not expect meaningful political change unless it is triggered by some kind of major rupture, crash, or shock.

They just elected a right wing guy playing off the fear of crime, they used to be one of the safest but have had a crime wave.
