Some context: This woman was trying to prohibit farmers from equipping their cows with bells, because she felt that they made too much noise. The population in this rural and traditional village did not like that, as they disliked people interfering with their traditions (especially since she was no swiss citizen). Some months later, she asked for naturalization, which was promptly denied by the popular vote in the village.
So she didn’t object to killing cows? The problem was the bell making noise? Ok, denial justified.
I could see an argument for the noise being detrimental to the cows and her trying to pick her battles in a Swiss cattle farming town. I guess she still didn’t hit the mark.
Its a proven fact that cow bells cause hearing loss in cows. But we do a lot worse stuff to animals, so IDK. Does the reduced chance of getting mauled by a predator make the hearing damage worth it?
I mean, I would not want to be kept “safe” in those conditions, so I wouldn’t consider it worth it
what predator is this supposed to be that hunts cows in switzerland?
They have wolves, the population is actually growing.
Humans
Like a Predator hunting humans armed with spears
Sometimes they hunt back but mostly on accident
It’s so the farmers can find lost cows
The bells were measured and found to Be loud enough to damage the cows hearing.
If I recall correctly the bells right at like 100db which is like a concert or a lawnmower.
I think it’s kinda cruel to the cows but I also get where it’s crazy to show up, tell everyone how to shit and then expect to be invited into the community for it.
I think it’s kinda cruel to the cows but
I get so tired of the “yes, this appears to be a historical atrocity people have deliberately ignored, but mentioning it now is rude” framing.
Slapping “we ruined her ability to interface normally with the bureaucracy as a punishment” on top is some reactionary bullshit I’d like to think the anti-Trump crowd would be above.
But nope… fascism is just a reflex for people.
I feel like you may be conflating my understanding of her non-acceptance into the community with being ok with animal cruelty.
I’m not and I don’t think the cows should wear the bells.
I just think that as an outsider challenging deeply held cultural beliefs she shouldn’t have expected to be welcomed as a citizen of that community.
It was an extremely unrealistic expectation to have.

Of course not. Keep people of different beliefs legally segregated and treat anyone in foreign soil as a second class human.
Otherwise, you might be annoyed from time to time.
You should consider how your extremely polarized views can blind you to relatively obvious truths.
I can’t lay it out more simply than I have, if you still can’t see what I’m saying then the most respectful way possible: please go touch grass you’ve clearly had too much internet.
your extremely polarized views
If you think equity under law is an extremist view…
-“It’s Fascism!”
Says the Tankie.

Y’all can read this whichever way makes you happiest…
But one side is definitely wrong about this, and as a general rule the one advocating for using the power of the state to punish mere annoyance isn’t on the right side of history.
“Everything I don’t like is fascism”
Continues with a meme and instead of adressing the question says “in general whhen people do…”
Lol
Okay buddy lib
You forgot to change back from your sock puppet account
Is there absolutely no better work to be done?
Who among us hasn’t spent our time inefficiently on something we care about? If you laser focus on only the most important thing, you’ll go (more) nuts.
I think some people feel guilty if their day isn’t packed to the brim with productivity, I feel so lucky that I don’t feel that way, on the other hand I’m kind of a bum. Live and let live.
Plenty. But, she chose this, instead.
I’ve read about this person before, and they sound genuinely insufferable for multiple reasons, the cowbell thing being just one of them.
Basically, they moved to another country, in the countryside, and immediately started telling everyone around them they were living their lives wrong and should change. Basically the opposite of what naturalisation means.
Yeah I remember a podcast about her. The cowbell thing was probably the least annoying part. She ran an equally aggressive campaign to get the church bells silenced (lady really hates bells). She also had aggressive campaigns against hunting and pig racing. So basically she was against most of the major past times and cultural aspects of the town.
Can confirm, she was featured in a program about Swiss naturalisation that I watched the other day. There were plenty of other candidates who were trying to integrate that were much less annoying than her, yet they still were having difficulty. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that they denied her.
Oh, so the same thing England’s been doing for hundreds of years. And, more recently, the U.S. Plus, of course, Christian missionaries.
Maybe she sees herself as some sort of Vegan messiah. The zealotry is strong in that group.
They moved there at eight years old
Looks a lot like islamists going to Western countries and demand that certain books/movies/subjects are not taught to their daughters
Edit: also, like Westerners going to exotic countries, conquer and colonize them, then forcing local populations to adopt their god, their fashion and their art
Same attitude, yeah.
Basically, they moved to another country, in the countryside, and immediately started telling everyone around them they were living their lives wrong
I say this every time I see someone complain about female castration, corporal punishment, or waterboarding.
If you don’t like how a community operates, you shouldn’t complain. You should leave. Or, better yet, don’t show up to begin with.
Get your fancy liberal ideas about social reform or rights for the disposed out of her. If we’re torturing cows in our town, with our own money, on our land, that’s our choice. Idk how you have the nerve to come in and try to make this place better.
Fuck you. I’ll torture my cows if I feel like it. As my father did, and his father before him. Cow torture is a tradition. Don’t be annoying.
“cow torture”?
They hung bells around their necks, calm down.
We should be grateful for every vegan trying to save animals/planet/… and generally leading their life in a way that does not fuck up everything for everyone else.
For every “annoying vegan” there are 100 annoying non-vegans complaining about them on the internet
For every “annoying vegan” there are 100 annoying non-vegans complaining about them on the internet
and a million people who just don’t eat meat because they think it’s gross. They didn’t feel the need to build a cult around it.
Sure man, not wanting to be part of the torture and murder of millions of sentient beings is a cult. 👍
The actual annoying people are the ones who complain about (often imaginary) annoying vegans. Same with the anti-apple crowd, they’re 100 times more annoying than the people who they complain about. Same as people who call others snowflakes mostly being the actual snowflakes themselves.
Also this story is very old but gets reposted all the time always explicitly stirring anti-vegan snark with captions like “Least annoying vegan”.
The meat industry is one of the worst polluters on the planet and they spend a lot of money pushing anti-vegan sentiment.
why is that comment font so weird? it looks like AI generated text
it’s just kinda a side effect of being screenshot and posted so many times
that usually looks different
Might be some upscaling or other stuff. I found this image in a 6 year old post and the font looks fine there: https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/ce7lhd/shut_up_vegan/
She seems insufferable, but was there from age eight. Im glad she finally got her citizenship.
