How much targeted pandering can you concentrate into one show?

Shows now seem to be auto-generated from earnings and audience market-prospectives.

I got strong petite bourgeois aura from the 10 second trailer of this show that I was forced to watch.

It wasn’t technically MCU but if you have watched Jessica Jones it wasn’t like this. They still executed the trope where the main story revolves around her ex boyfriend but it wasn’t a caricature of petite bourgeois liberal feminism like this.

I’ve heard all the Gamers and male Marvel fans hating on it and while I do dislike the MCU I was like “well of course the neckbeards are raging, it’s not aimed at them and they hate representation” expecting it to be just another shit mediocre marvel product of a similar calibre as the rest and similar to Gamer reaction to the Captain Marvel fiasco.

Lmao nah its reeeeaaallly cringe. I’m sure vast consensus by marvel sweatys is motivated by sexism and anti-wokeism but omg its pretty cringe regardless.

Like “you go girl boss, work it queen yaaassss twerk for me lmfao” levels of corporate “feminist” pandering.

Being right for the wrong reasons is just as lousy as being wrong in the first place.

Young adults’ standards keep evolving with each generation and I suspect that it’s only a matter of time (maybe before the end of the decade) before everybody is just as unimpressed with this tokenism as I am and will seek out better.

I doubt that the capitalist media will start publishing works that are in the style of Under Fire, Burn!, Salvador or Lion of the Desert in a desperate attempt to keep their services alive, but I think that it’s reasonably plausible that this half‐assed pandering will go the way of newspapers, ‘breastaurants’, GameStop, and cereal boxes in the previsible future. It’s getting old, young adults will demand better, and the business world will have more difficulty appeasing them.

One of the biggest reasons I hate gamers is because they ruin the critiques of many (genuinely) terrible shows and movies because their criticisms stem from sexism and racism.

Very true, they’ve done this with the new star trek series’ too. The shows are awful, but because there are women characters(just like there always has been in trek), reactionaries hate it for that reason alone. So you get communists and reactionaries that both hate it (for different reasons), and braindead liberals that silence any criticism of it as coming from a reactionary position.

Its also sad because even the inclusion / representation nutrek does, is done in an extremely tokenist and pandering way, that insults its target audience.

Yeah like I had no intention of watching the show and would of assumed it was getting hate trained for no reason because of their shitty sexist bs but I caught a few clips through a friend and was like oh god no it is bad.

Yeah ive been watching it and it is about what youd expect. I watch all marvel content because my handlers have instructed me to do so. Other shows like moon knight and loki felt like there were high stakes or were moving the MCU along. This one seems like its mostly filler so far. I guess that could change with todays episode but im not holding my breath.

I actually watch a lot of Marvel(it’s a guilty pleasure. I do annoy some friends with my critiques, though). Disney has been trying to diversify the MCU into a variety of genres, and this is their biggest foray into sitcoms. It doesn’t really push the universe forward. It’s primarily just filler and cheap laughs(nothing more feminist than making your “feminist” show filler for the rest of your programs). It could pretty easily be watched alone without any of the other shows or movies. I think we’re probably going to see more stuff like that from Marvel as they start filling out the entire universe. They want to attract as many different audiences as possible, then they’ll throw “heroes” together in movies to attempt to boost box office revenues. I think of the shows as a form of advertising that also makes profit in and of itself.
