Two sources familiar with the matter said that Discord is exploring its options for a sale in the wake of interest from multiple parties that want to buy the company.

And one source said the company has signed an exclusive acquisition discussion with one party meaning it is in final negotiations about a sale.

“It is hard to tell the difference between a serious acquisition attempt and a fishing expedition”

Any potential buyer with more than $10 billion on hand to buy Discord is likely to be a really large game company, but more likely the suitor would be a platform owner like Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter, or Google. Some game companies are bound to be worried that Discord, which serves critical roles in connecting game studios and publishers with their communities, could be acquired by a party that would only be interested in one of those communities. Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment.

hope so, but even a Matrix favorite like Element is not immune to these things:

2.11 What happens if Element is sold?

In the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets.

If we or substantially all of our assets are acquired by a third party, personal data held by us about our users will be one of the transferred assets.

There are many cilents to choose from. Unfortunately Element is the most full-featured right now, but I imagine that would change if Element was sold out. You can use Fractal or hell, even Pidgin, if you want to use a non-electron client.

You can even use mozilla thunderbird if you feel so inclined lol. There’s a ton of matrix apps even if some of them aren’t the most feature rich. Also a lot of the features aren’t needed even though they are definitely things I’d want, the base chat platform is still pretty good on its own.

This is the first time I agree to the excuse “there is always another solution” and I don’t know why

Because it’s actually true here. If we were talking about corporate software, it wouldn’t be, since that choice is an illusion.
