Because you can’t explain. Because your brain is in a round container and it has personal biases in shape preferences.

It’s very hard to get all of the soup out of a square container, because a spoon won’t reach into the edges properly

Or perhaps because it’s easier to scrape down the sides of a rounded container with a spoon?..

But it’s soup, you can pour instead of scraping. In fact a corner is a better spout for pouring, if we’re being purely practical.

But can you imagine if some fancy-shmancy restaurant served their extremely delicious soup in a square bowl? Teasing you with the impossibility of getting the last drop? I’d tip it out the corner but I’m crass.

If they did so, it would be to mess with your mind and subvert your expectations.

      Because soup is round.

That only applies if you’re transfering the soup out of the container to eat. If you plan on eating straight from the tupperware, round is better for soup

If you don’t need to scrape anything out of the bowl on your last couple bites then you’re eating broth, not soup (consommé is a broth, fight me)

Anyone that thinks that a soup is something you can eat in “bites” is either a lard abuser or lives in some -40°C frozen wasteland

          consommé is a broth

Fun fact: in Italian it’s called “brodo chiarificato” which can be roughly translated to “diluted broth”

    Soup cans > soup cubes

I was wondering why they make them in cans rather than cubes since it’s space lost and found this:

The cylindrical shapes of cans are a major benefit when manufacturing products. The cylindrical shape is the perfect cross-section of using the least amount of material but being able to fit the most product into shipment boxes and on store shelves. A spherical shape is inefficient for packaging, and a cubical shape is inefficient in terms of material use. The cylindrical shape is just right by using a rounded top (like a sphere) and elongated sides (like a cube). This cylindrical shape is also critical for withstanding pressure. This shape can withstand up to 90 lbs of pressure, making them a durable product for day-to-day life.

I prefer square because it’s easier to fold the soup.

I agree. A liquid should have the freedom to expand in all directions equally.

Everything else is just needless abusive or cruel behavior towards soup.
