I stopped playing Death Stranding because it was nothing but one long cut scene at the start and I still had no idea what the game was about after it stopped. I have rage quite a number of ‘on rails’ games. I can find other things to do rather then watch a poorly made interactive movie.
Red dead redemption 2, lol.
It’s actually the best walking simulator ever made, as the focus is on, you know, walking places.
It also has a very simple, but also very satisfying gameplay loop. It actually turns boring once it introduces traditional action game mechanics.
Hideo Kojima games may be interactive movies and not to your taste but “poorly made” they aren’t.
Is it a game if you’re not gaming ?
Claiming there isn’t a game to death stranding is just wrong though. It’s hyperbolic to say the whole thing is a cutscene.
There’s two death standings and that second one is bad.
“Motorcycle section” puts me off this game more than anything else I’ve heard.
To my ear, “motorcycle section” screams single-level set-piece on rails with minimal gameplay designed to show off explosions. Just like that level where you man a minigun out the door of a helicopter. You know the one, from every game released in the 2010s.
And some of these minigun sections also don’t require you to shoot anyone. Many of these onrails sections are just an interactive cutscene with one end: you getting out in one piece

You can thank half life 2s vehicle traversal levels for that.
HL2’s airboat and vehicle sections weren’t on-rails like this. You could get out and explore at any point with all the mechanics available to you. They even made it into a gigantic wave defense set piece for the final battle at the end of Episode 2.
The game doesn’t seem to be getting very many good reviews.
“Offensively mid”, the result of corporate rot of MBAs who don’t play or understand games tgladmaxxing every game into samey mediocrity.
It’s a widespread cultural phenomenon. We’ve promoted finance people into postions of power instead of product people and the results are as obvious as they were predictable.
A game for everyone is a game for noone.
I miss the days when people like Reggie Fils-Aime, Satoru Iwata (RIP), Gunpei Yokoi, and hell, even early Phil Spencer were in charge of the gaming conpanies they led. It only makes sense that a certified gamer or game developer should be put in charge of a GAMING company.
That sounds like what Force Unleashed did years ago which made it unplayable for me.
Just had a video from a random YT gamer pop up in my feed where he tried out the motorcycle chase on second highest difficulty.
He exited the pause menu, put the controller down and he didn’t have to touch it until after the cut scene where Wolverine jumps off the bike onto the truck.
Bro died but he was far enough that he had passed a checkpoint so it just picked back up halfway through the chase.
I have it wishlisted but I won’t buy it until it’s $10
This is why gamers deserve what they get. Why the fuck are you rewarding that with $10. You desperate to burn money? Give it to a homeless person! Holy fuck I hope you get nothing but aggressively mid games forever as you deserve.
Counter offer, take it off your wishlist and go buy $10 worth of silly things at a dollar store. It will literally be a better experience overall and you can enjoy it knowing they didn’t enen get a pittance from you.
Counter counter offer, use that $10 towards a really cool indie game. You’ll support a small and upcoming game developer while having an awesome experience that isn’t marred by triple-A slop.
Dude just go outside and burn it. That would be better than rewarding this garbage.

I wouldnt pirate this game, because its hardly a game, and playing it for free is a waste of my time and thus money. Id rather play a mid game than waste my free time on a nongame

People are so upset about sequences that aren’t even 5% of a game that they haven’t even played. The general discourse around this game, even in these comments, proves how fucking dumb most of the internet is; just parroting bullshit based on short clips and writing it off entirely, and somehow feeling smug about it.
Few places are worse than lemmy at parroting the same tired shit without thought. You’d think it would be better given the whole point of this place
