I feel like deep down we all know this:
The Devil’s fiddle solo in “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was actually better than Johnny’s.
Edit: thanks to these responses I’m gaining a whole new appreciation for the musical and spiritual symbolism in this song.
It’s clear in the Primus cover.
Oh somehow the existence of this has escaped me up to now. That was incredible.
I mean he absolutely cheated by having a band to assist. Of course it was going to sound better. Thankfully, he realized it wasn’t as good without the band included.
I’m pretty sure that CDB meant for the Devil’s solo to sound discordant and unmemorable. What I hear though sounds aggressive, passionate, and daring compared to Johnny’s “safe” catchy, melodic solo. Also they gave Johnny a call-and-response with vocalists so I’m not gonna hold the Devil’s backup band against him. Either way the Devil gave up that contest way to easily.
Given the Devil’s history, he really should have had him sign a legally binding (and easily misinterpreted) contract in blood and he would have had it easy.
Tobacco use is a character flaw.
Vaping as well
Addiction is hard to overcome, especially when chemically reinforced. And I say this as a certified smoking hater (nearly killed my dad twice)
I see you also fit in with the popular crowd.
Yeah, tobacco sucks
Pineapple on pizza is not only valid but slams.
Fight me.
Anyone who says it’s gross, but has never actually tried it, it makes you sound like a picky snob.
Pineapple, red onion, bacon, and a drizzle of BBQ sauce on a pizza is one of the most delicious things I have ever had.
People who hate pineapple on pizza need to focus and redirect their anger towards strawberries on pizza
Now try banana slices and curry.
as someone who loves both bananas and curry, 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
It’s one of the most popular Swedish pizzas together with hawaii (pineapple) so it’s not a joke!
i am so in 👀
I use pineapple sauce and tomato slices 🥊 (I don’t but that flips the script)
Disgusting. Have an upvote (even though it’s apparently a fairly popular opinion in this post, haha). If you give me such a pizza, I’d gladly pick off all the pineapple cuts and eat them separately, either before or after… but not during!
Pineapple, jalapenos, and onions is great.
I agree, it’s delicious.
Agreed and people put up with dog shit pizza all the time but once the toppings change some line has been crossed.
Creating ANY kind of smoke should be banned in public. By public I don’t mean just bus stops and trains and shit. Literally anywhere but maybe your house. And smoking indoors is even more disgusting. Smoking in your garden? Is there anyone living within ~20 feet? Forbidden. Smoke machines on concerts may have an exemption.
I also fucking had enough of people making fires every fucking time the weather gets too hot for me to keep my windows closed. Then my bedroom smells like the great fire of London and good luck having a good night’s sleep like that.
Does this include fire pits, bbq, and smokers?
Well, this is an unpopular opinion discussion. It does.
I knew BBQ would be a touchy one, especially among US users. I think it should be possible to have them, but preferably at places that can organise them in parks, or something.
Thanks for explaining!
And internal combustion engines?
Good question. I don’t see why people would keep their engine running for an extended period at home, so why not. Exempt on the roads of course.
Exempt on the roads of course.
Pending legislation forcing a shift to all-electric
You know what? Now I agree with Dicska, let’s get these things banned
Omg please ban camp fires at national parks. I came here to breath the fresh air of the mountains and the forest, not to feel like I’m a coal miner in West Virginia.
I think smoking should be made prohibitively expensive. So much that nobody wants it anymore.
I wish such a price existed… Unlike parking violations which are just parking fees for the rich.
This is one of the things that the Netherlands is doing well. There’s a huge extra tax on cigarettes. I think one cigarette costs about 50-75 euro cents. It should be more imo but it’s in the right direction.
I think smoking should be made prohibitively expensive. So much that nobody wants it anymore.
Places have tried that. People just switch to cheaper and tax free contraband cigarettes.
There’s a sweet spot. Unpopular opinions that get upvoted need to be trivial enough to not make anybody uncomfortable or angry.
Something like “Toilet paper orientation doesn’t matter” is far more likely to be upvoted by somebody who disagrees with it than “Everything bad that happens to your children is your fault because you knew it was a possibility and had them anyway”.
All energy drinks including Monster taste awful.

Most of them, yes.
I did like NOS and I drink Guru Original when I want the additional caffeine, but none of the others.
The main stream ones, seem to just suck. But sometimes I think if one of the smaller brands hits you just right then it’s enjoyable the same way a Pepsi or other pop is.
Terrible fuckin take I could chug red bull zero like it’s the nectar of the gods 😎
Unfortunately untrue. A couple of energy drinks local to my country taste better than fizzy drinks or juices. But I don’t handle caffeine well these days, and of course that stuff is pricey for some reason.
Driving a motorcycle doesn’t make you special and you should have to follow the same rules that cars follow.
If I can’t do it in a car, you can’t do it on a motorcycle
It does make them special in one very important way: it’s much harder for police to catch them.
Challenge accepted
You should visit India sometime
Nope!
Never owned one but splitting lanes is dope. More power to the riders and stay safe out there.
Here’s an unpopular opinion for people to upvote because we’re supposed to upvote the opinion we think is unpopular:
Linux sucks more than the users want to admit and it’s fans are the worst.
If you have to learn to program stuff to fix something in your OS, then it’s not a good OS. This isn’t the case for most modern Linux, but there’s many examples of just having to learn all sorts of crap just to make it functional. With the other two mainstream OS they are plug and play. Lately they have done shitty choices with AI and everything so that’s not as much of the case, but at least there you don’t have to go in and fix the code to make something functional.
If Linux was that great, you wouldn’t have to do any of that. I find it’s a weird parallel to owning a crown vic, where you have to pile sandbags in the back so it’ll drive in literally any snow, and then when you talk about it people say it’s a skill issue because they are hardcore fans of a dumb cop car. If you have to do something special to make something functional, that’s not a feature, that’s a bug.
And then, ye gods, the Linux fans. I know of someone who was berated for almost an hour over not using Linux. The person getting yelled at was like, 7. They are the smug Internet atheists of the tech world. They won’t shut up about Linux. Their solution to anyone looking up how to fix something with their computer is to uninstall everything and switch to Linux, even if it’s unrelated. If someone has a criticism for Linux they have a meltdown. They feel smug and superior in their choice of OS, euphoric and enlightened with their own intelligence.
That being said I’m probably going to switch to Linux anyway. Because fuck the changes windows made.
With the other two mainstream OS they are plug and play.
They are advertised as such, but in my experience aren’t really.
I switched to Mint a year ago. I’m a fairly savvy user, but I’m far from having any kind of computer science credentials.
I find the general update process in Mint to be much easier, more intuitive, and less intrusive than Windows.
There’s a bit of a learning curve to using the command line, but software installation in Mint has been a breeze compared to Windows.
I love linux (longtime debian user here) but it definitely kinda sucks sometimes and I understand why there isn’t mass adoption. I feel odd talking to other linux users sometimes.
You do not need to know coding to “fix” problems in Linux. We’re not living in 2006 anymore.
As someone that uses both Linux and Windows. Linux is by far easier to fix problems in. That doeant mean everything is easy. But it is easier. And the fixes are actually fixes, rather than a small patch you put on, hoping it won’t leak again.
The thing here is that most regular PC users have been on Windows for so long that they don’t even remember they had to learn how to use windows once upon a time.
I’ve been in IT support. And let me tell you. The ammount of times i had to create a vbs, bat, or powershell solution. (That’s actual coding and scripting) to fix problems in windows are far more frequent than you’d ever imagine. Not to mention all the times I’ve had to go into the windows registry and alter, remove, or create new regs.
I’m not saying Linux is the best. And I’m sure Linux has some super annoying fanatics. But to say that it has more problems than windows, or that those problems are more difficult to solve is just not true. At least not from my experience in IT
It’s fine for you to think Linux sucks. If that’s your opinion that’s your opinion. But your reasoning does not align with the reality of the situation.
Five minutes on the Linux memes instance where there’s posts about people breaking their os and needing to fix it with a ton of jargon kind of paints a different picture for everyone else.
linux memes instance
I’m gonna let you take a minute and see if you can spot a problem with the source of your information on linux.
Professional Wrestling is stupid but the wrestlers are Oscar level performers. When the stunt category at the Academy Awards matures, watch pro wrestlers repeatedly win.
The technicality, the over-dramatization, and the hilarity are off the charts.
I used to love it in the late 90s.
I remember they use to wack eachother with chairs and other objects lmao, no wonder lots of them suffered permanent injuries. Kinda wish i could re watch the earlier WWf / WWE series
Kinda wish i could re watch the earlier WWf / WWE series
I checked Rutracker, and it definitely has videos from the 90s and early 2000s. Being wilfully and blissfully ignorant of that artform, I can’t tell if the releases are any good nor if there’s any system to them.
I think you can. I’ve seen compilations on dvds. Check your library, especially if they have an inter library loan system. You might be able to find torrents too.
I sure hope that their chairs are of about the same sturdiness as Hong Kong action-film chairs, which crumble into woodchips from any moderate contact.
I remember they used metal folding chairs and they did not break easily. Obviously they didn’t hit each-other with full force but head injuries were still common
Better than football (or soccer) where everything is fake but you need to fake the fact that you know it
Religion is for people who would rather be told what to do than figure life out themselves.
I always saw it as a crutch for those who can’t cope with the cruel harshities of life and need to affix meaning and reason to the randomness we live in.
Program libraries are for people who can’t code themselves
Operating systems are for people who can operate their system themselves
Thought frameworks and books are for people who can’t think and figure out stuff themselves.
We have limited time and capital, so we create abstractions and frameworks and follow them so we can build further. Otherwise, we would still be trying to make tools out of stone because every person had to figure it out for themselves. This is a huge part of what makes humans different from animals like birds and fish.
Averroes agrees but recognizes the vast majority of us simply lack the time, resources, and - primarily - capability to acquire the level of demonstrative proofs which grounds understanding hence the necessity of rhetoric and those brilliant enough to do to lead.
It takes a lot of reading and self interpretation of texts, which to me is “figuring life out themselves.”
In the context of Christianity, i don’t think you can say anyone is ordered around by religious leaders anymore - we live in a thoroughly secular society, and people know they can just walk away if they don’t like what a priest/pastor is saying (Or find a different one).
Can’t really speak for the other religious in that regard.
But maybe you can see that discerning between “which leader do i listen to” is an act of figuring life out by yourself.
maybe you can see that discerning between “which leader do i listen to” is an act of figuring life out by yourself.
no, I dont see that. Picking between canned ideas is still consuming canned ideas, but feel free to do that. I’m not here to tell you what to do.
Pedofiles, those that think and do not act, deserve more compassion by society. They can’t help the way they feel. Acting on it is obviously extremely harmful but they can’t even talk about it, even to therapists, for fear of persecution. The current methods of suppression are harmful and akin to conversion therapy for lgbt folks. We need to allow them to have a voice and access to non harmful animated CP with all consenting adult voice actors or AI. In out current society they are akin to trans people in the 1950s
I dunno if I necessarily agree with the AI aspect of it. Because I think that might just be a slippery slope.
But overall I think non acted upon pedophilia should be viewed more akin to intrusive thoughts where we also try to not condemn the person for the thoughts or fantasies they have.
My issue with genAI csam is two issues. One, what was that model trained on? Two, it would be fairly easy to hide real csam in a folder of generated csam.
If it’s drawn, it’s fine with the exception of when it’s based on a specific child.
those that think and do not act, deserve more compassion
Well if its any consolation, pedophilia is not a crime and never has been. Rape is the crime and always should be. Not all pedophiles are rapists, we need to prosecute actual rapists more instead of electing them president.
Certainly agree with some of it but I don’t know if I necessarily agree with legalised non-harmful CP. I absolutely think that non-acting paedophiles deserve compassion, I can’t imagine how genuinely awful it must be to have thoughts like that, particularly if they clash with your own moral values. Even trying to get help could potentially wreck your life so it feels for some its a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. I wish I knew what the answer could ever be but absolutely we need to somehow reduce the automatic prejudice on those who want help. As you say, conversion doesn’t seem to be the answer, if you haven’t seen it then I highly recommend watching Louis Theroux’s A Place for Paedophiles where he spends time at Coalinga State Hospital looking at people convicted of these types of crimes where they are held indefinitely unless they enroll in a conversion therapy course which has an insanely low number of successful patients being able to leave it and get back to the real world. The stuff feels inhumane and almost designed to fail.
Its an area that absolutely needs more researchers and resources thrown at it but no government in this awful timeline is ever going to survive the right wing press backlash on “wanting to let predators live around children”.Germany has had a program for that for like 20 years, apparently it’s working pretty well. The therapy at least, the societal part is pretty much the same as everywhere.
Germany had a program where they gave foster children to pedophiles, up into the 1980’s, because they thought that the creeps would take care of the children if they could fuck them.
I know, but my link refers to a program from 2005, which is a year that came after 1980.
I agree that they should have compassion and someone to talk to
They should not have legalised CO
Veganism is a morally correct choice despite it not being perfect but many online vegans are insufferable
Most people here don’t know shit about China
America deserves Donald Trump
I’ve been a vegan for over 5 years. I am very happy about it.
I’m a former vegan that tries to eat mostly veg. It was so much easier when I lived on my own but when you live with your Asian parents, as an adult, things are tougher :/
I’m a former vegan
The dangers of the vegan diet far outweigh any purported societal benefits. The best examples are people who essentially starve their children and pets to death (or near death) because they are so hell bent on promoting the vegan agenda.
Im fine with a reasonably informed adult making whatever choice they like for themselves, but leave kids and animals out of it.
Veganism is a morally correct
It may be morally virtuous, but we have no moral obligation to not eat meat. And most of the vegan talking points are either factually vacuous or flat out lying which is a bad sign for that movement.
(example 1: Feeding all the people on earth without meat would actually be impossible, we do not have anywhere near enough viable farmland for that to happen.)

What if you only eat carnivores?
My unpopular opinion is that French food is pretty mid.
French food is just smothering everything in a cream sauce and cooking it too long.
Add a reduction somewhere in the recipe to make it take even longer and charge more for it.
Bonus points if it is a baked good and completely ruined if you don’t follow every step perfectly.
Basically an excuse to eat straight milk fat and look fancy doing it.
My popular opinion is that French is pretty bad.
At least it’s not British food.
Like French as a language, or French as a concept?
I’m four-times-twenty-plus-ten-nine percent sure they meant the language. But the people are hard to love too
That’s just French French. Belgians just say Nonant neuf
Yes
your tattoos “telling a story” is like a mandatory meeting that should have been an email about something I’m not involved with, and in fact, couldn’t care less about. You think enduring pain makes you seem tough, but it just makes you seem like someone who makes poor fiscal decisions in this shitty economy. And, (as an aside) ink was supposed to make you stand out because it was supposed to be a rare thing than not many people did. Now not many people have no ink at all so, if you were looking to be “unique…” (I mean, just sayin.')
People should be allowed to have and grow all the plants on this planet. All drugs should be allowed without prescription. Prescription should be suggestion not permission.
I’d love this. Let the morons OD, we need some natural selection. Should go a step further and take all the warning labels off things. Wanna wear a plastic bag as a helmet? Go ahead big dog.
Yeah. People should be educated. Parents should care about children. We made rules to obey those facts that undermine intelligent civilization basics.
Unironically yes. If you’re dumb enough to OD then I don’t feel bad for you.
if all drugs are legalized then the amount of people who will OD will be a LOT more than what you see when they’re illegal
I agree with you. Drug control is only needed to control population so they keep working for their masters.
Alcohol is a drug too, and is allowed because it tends to kill closer to old age where people become burden to the system. People can work next day after consuming alcohol. Also most consumers do that just before weekends. So negative impact is even less.
I don’t want deadly nightshade to be a regular cultivar in urban areas, hot take ig lol
