I joined because Reddit has become a cesspool of bots and toxic behaviour. Lemmy is still completely open-sourced, while Reddit isn’t at all now. Also, when you first sign up on Reddit currently, you get completely ignored now and can’t post or comment on regular subs.
Reddit api change and could not use a free app to access the place.
As for why .world specifically I don’t remember. I picked one from the list and it was probably not sorted alphabetically at least.
Yeah I was on Apollo right up to the end, then came here. Made accounts on .world, .ca, and sh.itjust.works and stuck with the latter. I chose it because it’s based in east coast Canada and I’ve stuck with it because it’s been the most consistently reliable.
Same reason for me. RIP Reddit Is Fun.
API change and third party app fiasco.
Never got banned from anything, I just left on principle. Really looking to move on from big tech altogether. It’s gonna take years.
If you sign up now and try to comment, you will get shadow banned.
Wow. Why?
I used to use a 3rd party reddit app, and refused to use the awful 1st party app when they made it mandatory. So I deleted my account, and came here instead!
Same, RIP to RedditIsFun
Anybody on here with an account age of roughly 2yr 10m is probably here because of the API changes lol
Lol hi it’s me
Apollo for Reddit shut down, and Reddit’s app sucks. Voyager looks identical to Apollo, so I moved to it.
I was banned from Reddit for posting NSFW pics of my own body in the right adult subs, and appealed and they still did not unban me, so here I am! I miss the friends I made there but I don’t miss the site… they are too ban happy over there and it was becoming buggy.
Sigh
*closes tab after seeing no Lemmy NSFW posts*
I got banned on one for posting my above averaged hog…
ha mine is below average, didn’t stop them from banning me though. Someone probably thought it was too ugly to be real or something lmfaoo.
Yea if that sub was NSFW, that’s fucked up that they banned you.
Yeah, they are getting a little too comfortable with the ban hammer over there. I’ve been reading threads of others that had the same thing happen to them. Soo glad I’m not alone and so glad I found this place!
I got banned for accidentally using “far right extremist terminology” lol. I’m still not entirely sure what I did wrong
Yep! I’ve known people to get banned for using far left terminology and with nothing threatening either being said. It seems if you piss off one of the mods on there on one of their bad days, then it can easily be game over for your time in that sub, or even your account. it’s that easy to catch a ban that you probably have less chance of catching a cold lmfao. Reddit has given the mods far too much power. I’m so glad for the Fediverse!
Reddit exodus. Started on lemm.ee but it is not existing anymore, so here I am at /0.
Suggesting on reddit worldnews that Gazan deserved basic human rights.
Freedom to choose (servers). no corporate shilling.
I browsed as Anon some years ago, signed up to .world and have moved servers since, along with a backup on piefed.
i left Reddit long before i signed you on Lemmy. I came to Lemmy from Mastodon. I mostly don’t use that anymore but do have a gotosocial account
I got the warning for supporting Luigi Mangione. I immediately looked for an alternative.
i never used Reddit, but came from 9gag here in the search for something where you can actually filter the content. being foss and decentralized (both of which I’m a huge fan) was an added bonus
Got permabanned for making a sarcastic joke on reddit
One of the biggest reasons i stick around, is just the slower pace and lack of algorithms. If i check in the morning, there’s a good chance that the same content will be trending in the afternoon or evening so I’m less inclined to scroll.

The Reddit APIcolypse of 2023. I came crawling back to Reddit a few weeks ago though. Lemmy doesn’t have the size to support the kind of niches that Reddit has, and Reddit has a much broader user base as well, so conversations are more interesting because I can’t predict what 80% of the responses to any topic will be.
