Even if we’re subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they’ve managed to overwhelm my feed.

I would rather see a sort/feed option which limits the number of posts shown from each individual subsciption (e.g. max 3 or 5 posts) and also have a “See all from [subscription]” button imbedded. I know that there is an enhancement request in to change the algorithm for top (or hot?) categories to take/order the the #1 ranked post from each subscription followed by the #2 post from each subscription and so on… which may help a bit.

But, frankly, I think we should just ask XKCD’s Randall Munroe - he came up with Reddit’s HOT sort and definitely has more insight on what drives a good algorithm.

You can always configure it on uBlock Origin (supposing you are using the web version)

Before influx of Reddit users, there were too much of topics I didn’t want to get into. So i just created my own cosmetic rules:

    lemmy.ml##.d-sm-block.d-none > .row:has-text(Blockchain)
    lemmy.ml##.d-sm-block.d-none > .row:has-text(ChatGPT)

What it does, is, that it blocks entries that contains unwanted phrases like ‘Blockchain’ or ‘ChatGPT’ .

If you don’t like me, for example, you can also add:

    lemmy.ml##.d-sm-block.d-none > .row:has-text(raubarno)

And you won’t see my posts.

I unsubbed for the same reason. Some funny content, but it was the only content.

Maybe if they code something like a multireddit so you could read specific subs without subscribing.

That’s why I unsubscribed from that community. Problem solved, tbh. Just block/unblock as needed if it disrupts the all feeds.

I just don’t subscribe to those communities and that seems to work well enough. When I don’t want to see it, I sort by subscribed. If I’m in the mood for memes or shitposts, I sort by all.

I blocked it almost immediately…tbf, I don’t really enjoy memes all that much, so I might’ve done it eventually anyway.

Personally, I wouldn’t want them spending precious development time on this when you could just block the community and set a reminder on your phone for whenever you want to unblock it.

I don’t want them blocked outright, though. I just want better feed algorithms. It shouldn’t just be whoever spams the most takes over my entire feed. The number of posts from any given community that show up in subscribed, local, all, etc. should be limited so that smaller communities aren’t pushed out of existence.

I mean, they wouldn’t need to…this is something any of us in the community could hypothetically contribute with a bit of specific knowledge and/or inspiration, but yours is a surprisingly effective and relatively low-tech solution so upvote for you good person

it isn’t just /c/memes looking at the global feed I felt like I was blocking meme related communities for a while yesterday.

I think the core app needs some simple text filters for communities and posts or hopefully some of the client apps will implement that a number of the meme subs at least have the word meme in their name.

Same could be said for NSFW subs, but we at least have a global toggle for those at if they have been correctly tagged.
