I had a post that just seemed to evaporate. Do mods just delete posts at will? Is there a notice sent typically? Post wasn’t anything remotely controversial. Is this something that happens on Lemmy? Say what you will about reddit, but at least there were notices when something was taken down.

Yes, if the instance hosting it has a blip. Mine lost three days of stuff when they rolled to a backup.

Yes it happens… I got a comment deleted because literally I called the guy his username… Instance rule “no name calling”, but I called the guy his username lol

Yup, I had that happen in No Stupid Questions, the mod just didn’t like my question(comment, not post) and took it down.

No swearing or anything; someone kept using the word bigot, I asked for evidence, so they called me a bigot. Mod left that up, but took down my comment asking for evidence that was getting upvoted.

I got no notice, just saw my reply was gone and messaged the mods, who confirmed they took it down even though I violated no community rules.

Could be a bug I guess. The site has modlogs built in, viewable to everyone, so I doubt it’s intentional for you to have a post deleted “silently”.
