        • fascism is on the rise across the world

        • Climate change has finally caught up with us in a big way with politicians still doing almost nothing to stop it or even slow it down

        • peaceful protesters are being labeled as terrorists and sometimes murdered while ACTUAL terrorists are protected by cops and half of the ruling elite

        • income and wealth inequality and thus poverty are worse than they have been since the great depression and it’s only getting worse faster and faster

        • the financial elite and their imitators are profiteering away people’s ability to survive and people are blaming it on the government spending money to help keep the victims of said profiteering alive

        • there’s a war in Europe where the rich countries care about it and the political alliance that the aggressor belongs to has just expanded to consist of countries containing half of the people in the world

        • the least bad realistic option for US President is an octogenarian who entered politics before the invention of the pocket calculator and thinks the solution to police brutality is to throw money at cops

        • the other realistic option is the career criminal grifter leader of a Christofascist cult, who is also a malignant narcissist, a sociopath and as bright as Greenland in December

This isn’t regular society, this is multiple crises piled on top of each other and about to explode into even worse catastrophe.

    Can we go deeper?

I dunno where you’re from but as a Canadian I’m dismayed when Canadians say they don’t care about u.s politics. Considering u.s politics influence our every day life just as much as the politics of our own Parliament. Anyone who has been to a major Canadian city and has seen Canadian idiots with the same Maga mentality, will tell you that u.s politics is a huge part of our life

We have our own issues to solve first and foremost . I live in a major Canadian city and I’ve never seen maga people, I honestly blame those people watching too much American politics in the first place.

I somewhat agree, but for my own mental health I’ve had to try and avoid it if I can. I still stay informed, I just don’t want US politics in every area of my life. I probably agree with most people on this site politically, I just don’t want to be so involved in that mind space all the time.

It also feels very US-defaultism to put US memes here all the time. Sure, most people here are probably American, but not everyone is.

I find it quite difficult to block only US politics due to how it’s the “default” so people rarely specify it’s the US. It also just tends to be constant work as new scandals and stuff pop up.

If anyone has some good filters please let me know.

          Ya that’s called usdefaultism.

That’s why I no longer specify which unit of measurement I am talking about anymore. It’s funny to watch Americans tell me I’m wrong.

“Ya that costs like 30 bucks” and they come screaming about how I’m getting scammed because it’s only $20. Meanwhile I’m talking about CAD, not USD.

Or when I’m talking about temperature, cities, etc.

I don’t mind political memes, we’re adults and politics plays an important part of our lives, satire on politics is a welcome part of life, BUT… why must they all be foreign memes from the Americas?

We should have a mix of political memes from all around the globe! Gods knows, Sunak or Braverman are deserving of memery… :-P

I’m not smort enough to make memes :-(

We have the best memes. We are a meme force to be reckoned with.

Also, we’re desperate for some mirth to lighten the burden of how horrible some of our politicians are.

Y’know I’m a patriot and all, but I wish we didn’t spend so much of our national budget on the Meme Force. Let’s stop shipping our memes overseas and start meming in our local communities

I’ll never understand people who say this stuff. Like, make your own? Ask other Europeans to make them? What are we supposed to do, NOT post, because the minority of users don’t feel like their relevant?

Exactly. We complainers aren’t saying they can’t post about politics, just requesting they post their political memes in the designated political meme space.

EDIT: A message to people from Hexbear

Thank you for your input, but I stopped responding to arguments here at least 24 hours ago because I can’t juggle that many conversations at once. I would ask that you respect that and not continue to argue with me about what is and isn’t political, because I’m just going to ignore it anyways. Thank you.

The funny thing is, deciding which memes are political and which memes are not political is itself a political decision

      You just can’t escape it

  • It’s about not posting shit tier “memes”. And yes I must use the quotes because many of you people don’t actually know what a meme is and have taken the boomer Facebook approach off putting shitty text over a picture and calling it a day.

Lemmy.ml is fundamentally a communist community. Leave it and join somewhere like Lemmy.world if you want to be part of a community that doesn’t have a political agenda. This energy you are expanding complaining that a social network isn’t meeting your expectations could be more productively spent just checking which ones do and which ones don’t. You might as well be complaining about all the Star Trek memes on the Star Trek Lemmy instance.

I guess you’re the guy who pulls words out of context and tweaks them to fit their agenda. My shtick is cuter because it’s based on how nationalism actually works. You realize that the whole reason Jews make an easy scapegoat is that they weren’t tied to land, right? That was the biggest reason Nazis wanted them culled. Turns out, Israel proved them right. You tie a religion to some land and it’s easy to pervert a faith into fascism.
