I think it depends on where you live. I have visited places where summer is the best season. I live where summer is the worst season.
I strongly agree. I like the variety of the four seasons where I live, including winter, but summer has become my favorite. It’s when I get to work with growing things outside, there’s lots of festivals, people are more willing to go out and do things. But I wouldn’t feel the same way if I lived in Phoenix, Arizona for instance.
I’ve lived in half a dozen cities on multiple continents and have never lived somewhere where summer was the worst season. Even living in a place where winter temps meant overnight lows of 5 and highs of 15, summer was still much better. I’ve even spent time in tropical locations where the seasons are “rainy” and “not rainy”, so it was basically summer all the time, and I liked that a lot better than even a mild winter.
I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Summer has been the worst experience no matter where I have visited or lived. Heat is fucking miserable to exist in, humid or dry. Give me snow and overcast days over the summer sun.

ya summer in new orleans is some of the most humid in north america Ive heard because of its high water plane there and , well, all the water around new orleans too lol. Thats probably why they have so many hurricanes.
NBut I actually dont care how humid or unhumid it is. I just like it being hot. I dont care if I move to the Amazon or Congoloses rainforests or Sahara Desert when I get older but Ill be glad that Im done with winters here forever lol.

Where I live, winter means:
- Freezing cold weather.
- Snow/slush/ice/sleet/freezing rain.
- Bad road conditions.
- Cloudy skies.
- No sunshine for days or weeks at a time.
- Cold/flu season.
- Gets dark outside at/before 5pm.
I hate all those things. I love summer because it’s the opposite.
Personally, I love summer for cycling but hate it otherwise, detest winter, dislike autumn, and adore spring 😁
Also, you basically can’t go outside. Sure, you can go from a heated building to a heated vehicle then into a different heated building. Or, when it isn’t too cold you can do certain sports outside. But, even going for a walk means putting on a huge number of layers, and then trudging through snow which slows you down, trips you up, and gives you very little traction.
Not to mention that never being able to open a window means no nature sounds for months on end. The cold and snow means no sight of living nature (other than pine trees) for months.
It’s also extremely difficult and dangerous to bike (at least here) so you either need to own a car, spend a lot on taxis / lyft, or spend nearly as long as it would take to walk and take public transit.
If I lived somewhere where winter lasted 1-2 months I might enjoy it. But, where I live it’s 5+ months, and I fucking hate it.

It was too dangerous and uncomfortable to just go out and about during the winter cause you could freeze to death, slip on ice and get injured, since visibility is decreased you are more vulnerable to other humans wjo wanted to steal from you or do you in AND animals too, you could starve to death since there was fewer plants to pick from and fewer animals to hunt. People in neolithic eras didnt really hibernate completrly like bears but rsther entered a state of ‘tupor’ where they did FAAAR less during the winter months until it cleared up in late spring. ‘Why put yourself at risk and be uncomfortable too?’ is probably what theyre thinking.

Im not saying nobody goes to work during those months but it I feel we would be happier overall if it is accepted that people go to work and go to outings faaar less during the winter months. Im pretty sure in some superarctic parts of Alaska and Siberia that this is already done. I havent read of it being done there but Id find it hard to believe they dont already…

thata why you should always attempt to eat a MASSIVE bulking meal before goong out in the winter , or even whenever its cold too to be honest. ALl those extra calories get burned as you move around and keep you warm. You and the people youre going with need to find some way to get some warmness inside you.

They do, but I’m from America so I use whatever.
Also we have kinda do seasons here, right now it’s “wet”, meaning in the highlands it tends to be drizzly and clouds more often, and you get 1-2 15 minute showers, and in the low lands, it’s sunny all day, and you get absolutely dumped on for 15-30 minutes in the late afternoon and sometimes in the morning.
Same thing happens in Nigeria Ive heard. I think that many countries near the equator also have seasons that look like this too.
Yes, equatorial areas only have wet and dry seasons, but they tend to be too hot, up here in the mountains, it’s always nice.

It’s p nice being able to wear a jacket, there’s areas like this all over the Highlands. The regions north of Hanoi is like this too, Sa Pa (gives ski resort town vibes, was just some poor ethnic minority villages 20 years ago, now it has a ton of investment and Vietnamese moved in from all over the country), Ha Giang (was the poorest area, now a lot of tourists go there, the cops there suck), Cao Bang (nearly as poor, didn’t get as many tourists, but the people are way more chill, better hiking IMO), but Da Lat is a bit more charming.
Many areas in Yunnan, China, incl Kunming, a city of 10m have similar climate, and great food if you like mushrooms. Medellin in Colombia is also pretty stable and an amazing place to live, but a little warmer.

Currently camping in Scotland with temperatures ranging 7-20°c over the 24h cycle. It’s fantastic. We die when we do it in southern Europe summer. The problem is the price you pay in winter for those mild summers…

Yeah endless wet can get a bit depressing after a while. Mixed feelings on the short days as there are fun things to do at night too. Like sitting around a fire has a different vibe at night.

Summer has been pretty brutal this year, just so ungodly humid. Fortunately a dehumidifier costs a lot less to run than air conditioning.
And fall is ok temp wise, and the smells and colors are nice, but all the work of raking leaves and shit sucks big time. Especially when you have trees that don’t drop until the very tail of fall, after the brutal cold has started.
The good thing about my part of London is all the trees have been cut down. So we don’t have wildlife anymore, but at least we don’t have to rake leaves /s
Summer really is the worst.
Here’s three months or so where it’s so stupidly hot you can’t even sleep properly at night, and if you want to go outside you have to smother yourself in goo repeatedly because the sky will kill you. Also there are millions of what are essentially flying dirty syringes who’s only purpose is to steal your blood that are seeking you out constantly. And not only do they steal your blood, the place where they stole it from will turn red and itch like crazy for no discernible purpose other than fuck you presumably. You can sort of keep these away by smothering yourself in a second type of goo that’s probably poison of some sort.
Good thing we invented housing so we can avoid this right? It would be, except that as soon as it starts everybody seems determined to spend every second of it outside, and becomes fixated on making everyone else be outside too. There also seems to be some connection with sunshine and everyone wanting to be as loud as humanly possible.
I genuinely wish I could just hibernate like a bear through summers lol, as soon as June 1st hits just peace out until September.
You know what else sucks? beaches. By most individual metrics they are a shitshow, but when you add all these ngatives together in peoples minds, they end up with a positive impression somehow. Do I want to go sit in sand in full sun, consume sandy food and lukewarm drinks, with limited access to normal amenities, listening to other peoples dipshit music, closely packed together with pasty bloated whale like humans without clothes? No I dont.

I live near one, never had a problem with being packed in or other peoples music because I just walk along the beach to find a clear area. Its also a gravel beach so no sand.

Dude, you need to go to a nice beach by a nice hotel. They have chairs set-up for you with umbrellas and someone will walk by and take your food and drink order and your food won’t have sand and the drinks will be cold and you can just walk into the hotel for any amenities and you’ll be with people who know better than to play music at the beach.
Hotel? Can’t think of a worse way of going to the beach, and so expensive.

I grew up in the northern part of the USA. Summer is also when we didn’t have to bundle up in 8 layers.
A lot of us like sundress / bikini season.
Spring & fall were generally the planting/harvest season so work was a LITTLE lighter in the summer.

The lowest temp I’ve experienced in my state is -52f. I like summer too. Fall is my favorite though. At least the two weeks of it we get.
I like summer because I can wear something skimpy, it’s light out, and it’s just generally the season people tend to be out doing stuff and having fun. I also love spring.

That translation makes sense - Mediterranean climates (like Greece has) don’t have to deal with humid summers. It’s easier to like hot weather when your sweat evaporates.
In places with hot, humid summers, sweat just piles up until you’re a shiny, dripping, salty mess. And you still feel hot.
It also makes sense if “sunshine” is considered “good weather.” Mediterranean climates have their wet season in winter, so summers are the dry season, with clear skies and little rain. It makes sense in Greece, but other places get regular thunderstorms in summer, occasional tropical storms/hurricanes, or season-long monsoons that bring torrential rain inland.
I have always hated the whole “it’s summer you must come outside and do things with us right now” thing. I don’t get why you don’t spend time outside all year round. Why is it important now that it’s intolerably hot and bright?

Bright hot days make me want to stay inside with the A/C cranked and the blinds closed.
