And the “metaverse” was going to be a thing
was that before AI and bitcoins were “inevitable”?
I think that was between bitcoins and NFTs
The future is blockchain! Until it wasn’t.
And web 3! Or was it web 2.0?
Lets skip a version to Web 4.0
AR/VR is actually cool, but it’s just incredibly niche, for the foreseeable future, for so many reasons.
My biggest problem is that I have to either wear contacts or order special lenses just to use it. Trying to wear glasses in VR is very cumbersome and annoying, plus you risk scratching the lenses. They need to find a way to make the headset smaller and easier to wear, and have it automatically adjust to your vision as well (which will never happen until they get rid of that pointless law that requires you to see an overpriced doctor every year to get a prescription.)
As someone who’s had similar issues, I’ve previously wondered if it would be possible to ‘simulate’ a prescription lens and have the headset just add a distortion to the video feed that approximates what your lenses do.
the tldr is no, because the optical effects you can correct that way are not the ones that glasses/contacts exist to correct for.
Ah, that’s unfortunate. I did figure that if it were as easy as I proposed, it would probably already be implemented.
Yeah, exactly!
I was thinking of motion sickness, too. VR/AR makes a huge fraction of people sick, literally.
Gotcha. I’m like the Zuck in the sense that I don’t get sickness in VR, so I forget that it’s a major issue for most other people. Full joystick locomotion with all the motion sickness assists turned off is the only way to go for me. (They break immersion.) I never got headaches from 3D movies and games either. I really miss that era of PC gaming because the glasses were a lot less cumbersome than a headset.
I feel really bad for those who have motion sickness issues with games; happened to me one time when I was drinking too much one day and then made the mistake of hitting the live resin. So I completely get why those who suffer wouldn’t want to touch VR. I sure wouldn’t if that was my normal experience.
Technically it doesn’t “make” people motion sick, they are motion sick either way. But VR offers a very accessible way to train away your motion sickness. Since you can actually stop early enough to reinforce that your brain doesn’t need to protect you. A car ride or boat is much harder to stop at a moments notice.
If you keep reinforcing that you don’t need motion sickness, your brain stops doing it to you. It thinks it’s helping.
Similarly, the medication for car ride or boat motion sickness works for VR too. So they can help you be able to spend more time in each session while training it away.
Beat saber and VR racing are fucking sick.
hell, remember when they made a car?
wow they were working on it until 2024 and only stopped it for AI 🤣
they keep chasing after the trend
Remember when they made a charging mat?
What do you mean “remember”? Didn’t the Apple VR headset launch only a year or two ago?
I don’t remember
No lol
There was little mention of it at the last Apple Developer Conference in June. They haven’t given up, but it’s not on the iPhone/Mac hardware upgrade cadence.
Face-based computing has been around for a while. It’s got a lot to overcome.

Hey the Newton ruled.
It was just too far ahead of the hardware.
lol
Imagine changing the name of your company after a product that failed in the marketplace.
