edit: I swear google has some code that listens to background noise and does this on purpose
Firefox + uBlock.
Also Morphe/ReVanced.
duckduckgo also and vivaldi
Can you do this from an iPhone?
Yes. The Orion browser on iOS supports both Firefox and chrome plugins.
You can use an android phone and block all the ads. This is what deterred me from iPhone last time. Greyjay, pipepipe, etc. No ads. Plus uBlock for Firefox. Among other huge advantages.
You can also use Firefox focus browser, or Unwatched app.
Ublock origin is available as a safari extension now :)

What amateurs still watch YouTube with ads? Every platform has plenty of easy solutions to bypass it.
Xbox/consoles?
Doesn’t work for all but at least for a time firewall blocking of ads worked
Can they run vlc?
jesus fuck people still rawdog the internet and willingly subject themselves to ads?
never see another ad again: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
this works on mobile too :3
Also, Newpipe for mobile and FreeTube for PC
Edit: Someone in this thread mentioned Pipepipe, a fork of Newpipe with extra features. I had not heard of it, but it’s worth investigating
Or YouTube ReVanced if NewPipe is too confusing and unfamiliar to you.
Morphe is the way to go these days, the maintainer of Revanced pissed off its main contributors and they went over and made Morphe. Revanced’s significant recent updates have been to catch up with Morphe.
It also supports sourcing patches from other contributors directly so there are patches for apps like Chess.com and TikTok on Morphe that aren’t available on Revanced.
Thanks for letting me know. YT Music Morphe is s league above YT Music ReVanced, which hasn’t gotten any new features in forever.
YT Morphe, on the other hand, only seems to be a marginal improvement. I don’t really notice much of a difference beyond minor improvements, even after combing through every setting. Return YouTube Dislike is still broken for Shorts, but at least the ads are gone again.
But anyway thanks again for telling me about it.
Also check out sponsor block.
not “on mobile”, on android
not on ios because all ios browsers are safari wrappers, per apples policy
You’re*
People. What. The. Fuck?
Why does everyone freak out about the adds and not the level of brainrot this is. Like how do you actually function in your daily life if you can’t stop watching content for a 5min shower? I have ADHD but I feel like I am amateur attention span issues and this is competitive ranked grand master attention span issues
Yes I am judging and maybe even shaming you.
Okay not shaming you because doing so is negative and I genuinely hope you get better if you have attention span issue. Smooches on you
So I dont watch stuff in the shower but I do kinda HAVE to watch something to go to sleep. If I dont I cannot go to sleep or I sleep pretty bad because I kinda just go into a weird depressive mental state. I know its not good and it does need to be fixed. Im just currently NOT in a situation where I can get help on it so I use it to hold it as a temporary workaround for now. I do imagine other people have a worse version of this.
Can I recommend some music like Sigur Ros or something instrumental that involves less bright light in your face hammering the part of your brain that controls the “its daytime, stay awake” response.
I may be biased and ignorant cause I need pitch black and at most a fan one roon away to even run the chance of getting to sleep. Saying that if I have anything caffeinated after about 5pm I’m awake until 1am with my brain trying to make me kms, so I at least know how that one feels.
Thank you. I have tried Sigur Ros actually. I do prefer chiller content and darker if I can. It just needs to be something to distract and give my brain something to gnaw on
The subject matter is less important than the fact it’s beaming light into your eyes <1m away.
Even if you’ve got it on low blue light mode you’re still putting your brain through the kind of thing that was used as psychological torture by shady agencies since the 60s - keeping your brain active and exhausting yourself into unconsciousness instead of allowing your body the time to enter actual sleep is what’s making it gnaw on itself :/
Read an actual paper book instead of using a screen, get yourself into a habit of making a warm and sweet but not caffeinated drink so your body gets the signal of ‘now is the relaxing time’ at a regular time every night, and your mind will catch up to the routine.
Also dont underestimate the power of a decent meal a couple hours before going to bed (avoid eating directly before, because that’s a recipe for stomach pain and a bad time)
Speaking of recipes
Considering the phone is out of reach, it’s probably to listen to a podcast or music. Shower radios have existed for decades after all.
Agreed. Also taking your phone to the toilet is gross and using it at the dinner table is kinda rude
I mean, I do it, but I also spend at least 2-4 hours outside a day without any input from my phone. It’s more like, “I’m watching an interesting video, but I also need to take a shower, no reason to not do both.”
Why are got guys watching ads?
Seriously, I don’t get it.
You don’t have to watch ads on YouTube. Not on your TV, not on your phone.
most people have no technical capacity. also on ios you cant really do shit. android at least has firefox
AdGuard for iOS
I get listening to music in the shower, although I don’t. Watching videos while taking a shower? Maybe while taking a bath.
But, really, you can’t step away from media for a few minutes a day for some peace and quiet?
Suffering through being alone with your thoughts is the first step toward better mental health. Your issues don’t go away if you ignore them, they just get worse. You know this, so make an effort for yourself.
Is it really impossible for people to just watch their dicks (or equivalent) for a few minutes a day?
I mean it can be dysphoric for some but I assume that is not the reason this person needed a distraction.
use invidious ffs
and use ublock too
Laughs in Firefox.
Laughs in pipepipe
Laughs in practicing mindfulness and exploring the vast worlds of my imagination
(jk I don’t do this, I mostly feel anxiety instead)
(it’s a nice thought)
Ah, yes. Maladaptive daydreaming 🥰
There are so many ways to watch youtube without ads. So. Many. Ways.
newpipe
PipePipe
Used to be on newpipe, but since updates were taking forever at times, switched to pipepipe. Hows the project now?
I’m using NouTube on Android via fdroid. It has YouTube and YouTube Music together in one app and automatically skips both ads and sponsorship segments. Basically free premium, at least on Android.
Have you been getting any error recently? Im on PipePipe and got this error 3 times today.

“Youtube forces us to wait 2 seconds before continuing playback.”
Getchu one of these.

For those who play YouTube or other videos in the shower, it is really nice. Make sure it fits your case though. My wife doesn’t use ours because her otter box monstrosity wont let the cover shut.
Or if you’re a poor high school student like I was, chuck it in a ziploc and set it on the caddy.
Or just get a water resistant phone. Though I would suggest caution when it’s soapy water because that affects the surface tension of the water, which could mean some can slip past the seals that normally keep water out.
Though I have a water resistant phone but have never brought it into the shower with me. It was more of a case of not wanting to be worried about my phone in any kind of a situation involving water. Like going in to one of those 3D movie attractions with moving seats that sprayed water, I was concerned about whether I should be concerned about my phone getting wet. Turned out to be just tiny amounts of water and nothing to be concerned about even if I had my phone out, but after that I wanted to remove that worry from the list entirely.
Heat and steam can also be a factor in a water breach. A phone that can be fully submerged into a pool of water may or may not stand up well to steam at its seams, particularly where those seams have different materials with different expansion rates due to heat, like glass and aluminum. Small gaps may open, even if invisible to the eye, and steam can seap in. It may not even be a problem immediately but get worse later when the steam cools and condensates.
Yeah, though at least pressure doesn’t really factor in, which I think is where most cases of steam breaching a water seal comes in to play. But if gases can be exchanged, steam is way higher humidity than air normally and can condense inside.
My guess would be the odds of a soap or steam breach on a water resistant phone is very low, but if you bring your phone in for every shower, you might be tempting those odds.
