This will sound facetious, but I recommend getting her a cake she likes.
I don’t know if is too late to ask questions or do sleuthing, but if there was some kind of cake from her past she really liked that she hasn’t had in a long time that might be ideal. Like for my wife that was ice cream cake which isn’t as much a thing anymore as it was in our childhood. For me that is certain recipes my mom made in my childhood.
That’s smart, the backup option is to make a new flavor of basque cheesecake. She’s better at those though so I was thinking of something entirely new.
It’s possible that she, like me, doesn’t particularly like cake. Maybe pie?
Go right ahead and recommend your favorite pie! A lot easier for me to bake ;)
Cherry, apple, blueberry, whatever fruit she likes you can probably find a good recipe for a pie that features it. Does she go nuts for pumpkin spice lattes? Pumpkin pie. Insists on keeping bananas in the house? Banana cream pie. Or maybe she just loves oreos and you can get a store bought oreo pie. Just make it clear that you know her and have been paying attention to what she likes and she’ll enjoy what you make/buy for her.
