Every president who has ever levied a national income tax has FAILED. And Trump isn’t going to fail this nation by letting people pay that tax for free.
By abolishing the free filing provision, we are going to come one step closure to guaranteeing nobody (earning more than $500k/year) has to pay it again.
Oh there’s still “IRS Free File”, which is a different thing where you have to go through a middle man to get it while they try their damndest to “upgrade” you to the paid version. And presumably they got some kind of money from the US gov either way.
Direct File was a sane program that cut them out and let people file their taxes completely directly. The leeches lobbied against it.

I try not to feel bad when I’m wrong. There is a whole trillion dollar set of apparatuses at work specifically evolved and designed to trick us into falling for it. My Dad told me during a ride in his truck that he was voting for Trump again because he lowered prices for things in his first term and thought he’d do it again. Every bit of news I have seen of him since is shit that’s making Dads financial situation worse.

I don’t really blame my Dad for it, he’s in a pretty bad spot money-wise. He has to support him, my stepmom, my sister, my two stepsisters PLUS the newborn twins one of them just had, my little brother, my cousin that lives with us, two dogs, a turtle, AND myself whenever I come over. We had so many people living with us at one point he had to set up some new walls and doors in what used to be my little brothers toy room to turn it into two separate bedrooms.
He voted for Trump entirely because of his belief that if he became president again, we would be as financially stable as we were when he was first president. Back when we could afford going on a camping trip twice a year, back when our fridge was regularly stocked with ingredients to make our own lunches, back when he could afford to buy a whole 200$ game console for my birthday, ect. That hasn’t ended up happening and every time I get a glimpse at the news he’s not any closer to doing that. If my Dad was ever a “Trump supporter” I doubt he is now.

It’s pretty open. Step 1 is make income tax as painful as possible, step 2 is get rid of it in favour of tarrifs and other regressive revenue generating fees. And MAGA was already convinced that progressive taxation helped people they want hurt.

Sigh. I used Direct File last year and it was great. Back to FreeTaxUSA I guess. The least shitty option I’m aware of.
You can still use free fillable forms, you can fill out the raw tax forms yourself online and can submit them online there. Not the best UI, it’s literally just the forms, but you cut out the middle man so they don’t get more money to lobby congress to keep this dumb system going. It’s also free if you make more then $85,000 , which alot of the “free” software isn’t.
I’ve always just got the forms from the IRS site and mailed them in. If they’re going to make me work for it, I’ll make them work too.
Freetaxusa is the GOAT for filing. Have all my shit saved on a NAS and it’s so easy.
