We all know what’s gonna happen next. The Admins will lock out the remaining mod and take it over for being “unmoderated” and install their own puppets like nothing ever happened.

It’s that whole “slash funding, complain it isn’t working, privatize” approach on a smaller scale.

they ban for upvoting “eat the rich” too.

yet reddit admins never had a problem with thedonalds posters litteraly saying people should be shot and other violent rhetoric for years. the key difference is this time the billionaire class got upset.

Yea, my blessed Fediverse brethren, hear ye!

Mark thy holy lemmings, gird thy loins with smelling salts and prepare for the unwashed tides. The memes will be terrible and swift, and no one will be safe from the waves of idiocy.

Tremble, for the 2nd Dawn of the Age of Incelius has arrived, and the Reddexodus Reddux is upon us!

That’s why I’m here. Reddit started getting super censored so I was looking for an alternative and was directed here. It’s fucking ridiculous.

Same. I originally came here after they killed off 3rd party apps, then I figured out how to patch RiF again and didn’t spend as much time here.

The propaganda and misinformation have gotten to be too much. Advice subs are all fake AI stories. Admins are making a fuss about people breaking the rules, but refuse to disclose what the rules actually are.

I really enjoy Lemmy. The downside is that it’s not as easy to organize (and find) niche spaces like on reddit. I’m hoping the small communities have grown more since the first mass migration.

I received a permanent ban from Reddit last week, and I’m here for the same reason. And Reddit IS turning facist, as the rich close ranks. Fuck them. Any “spirited” criticism of Trump/Musk is characterized as encouraging violence and results in temporary bans, many of which I received, until recently when I apparently crossed a line which was too offensive (to the Mods). Therefore…

the immense amount of bans they came last month, ongoing since nov 5th is just made some of us come here. they are going to keep banning, or make it easier to ban until only right propaganda is left, also the increased amount of on the ability to ban people that “report other people” has also increased. you can get banned for reporting someone or reporting “too much” apparently.

Welcome, sibling! I came over in the rush after the reddit API debacle. Some things I’ve learned in the last year:

We may not have Sprog here yet, but get to know the environment, including colorful fauna such as:

      • Cephalopods that have Colonized the Skies.
      • The embodiment of the habitual movements of a space captain.
      • People that are kind-of like ossified remains.
      • People whose entire self identities revolve around draconic coitus (and all the controversy this brings).

The vast majority of posts are made by, like, ten people, and I’m pretty sure they never sleep. I’m currently unconvinced that Flying Squid isn’t just a full colony of Humboldt Squid, constantly ramming into a giant submerged keyboard.

As far as controversies: Avoid the “tankies”. You will find them on Hexbear, Lemmy.ml, and lemmygrad. They will not be going away, since the original creator of Lemmy is, apparently, one of them, and seems kind of mad with power. They treat with no man, and are willing to do anything to convince you that authoritarianism is good, as long as it calls itself “socialism”. One would think they would have learned their lesson from “National Socialism”… They apparently have not. Not everyone from those servers is a tankie, but most tankies are on those servers. Think of Tankies as the lemmy subspecies of those trolls you shouldn’t be feeding.

Contribute to discussions! Especially on a place as small as Lemmy, lurking actively harms the community! Unlike most places, it’s generally fairly easy to figure out who’s being disingenuous and arguing in bad faith, and most people are very reasonable! (As long as you never say anything bad about Linux. Be forewarned. Do not engage unless your autonomic nervous system runs Arch)

      Welcome!

      Welcome to Lemmy, bud!

We have lots of Linux and Star Trek memes.

I highly recommend that when you update “all” or your “front page” - be sure to set youe filter for “Hot” results. Gets you the fresh, interesting shit.

They banned my old reddit account because I reported fake news that was being posted on r/conservative. Apparently subreddit mods can report users who use the report tool and can just get you banned.

They recently, meaning I don’t exactly know when it happened, gave mods the ability to report you for “Abuse of the report tool”. For the record, I’m a mod on some subreddits, and that’s an absurd thing to need. I’ve learned a few things about being a Reddit mod.

      1. It’s not nearly as hard as some mods make you think it is.
      2. If they actually experience difficulty, it’s probably cause they suck at being a mod.
      3. Subs that experience issues, are typically cess pools like r/conservative.

yea ive been reported for “report abuse” when the comments were legitimately trolls or obviously posting misinformation, crossbanning is also just as ridiculous. from what ive gathered, some mods are lazy into responding to every post being reported so they decided just to get rid of the reporter instead having to deal with.

i got hit with report abuse a couple times. there were legitimate comments that should be reported but not getting removed.

    • I got banned because I posted a comment on an anti vaxx sub (I was challenging one of their comments) and found out a lot of subs had ban bots that just watched who posted to subs they didn’t like. Whatever you do don’t put any thought into your mod work or look at the comment’s context.

It’s not like we don’t have mod drama but at least when you’re federated, stupid decisions get limited to a single instance and others can simply defederate. Does allow for pretty… erm, interesting views you don’t see on Reddit.

      That’s the beauty of it.

The drama I prefer is power tripping mods who hate your username, hates that you use acronyms, and hates your server.

The drama I dont want is power tripping developers of Lemmy telling end users (us) what we can/can’t post using the software.

There’s going to come a point when the things we can’t say may need to be said. A time when the message is delivered with blank comments.

[ . . . ] will carry a message of it’s own that becomes much more difficult to ban.

They keep permanently suspending ppl so theyll wind up here, almost like someone working there secretly wants the fediverse to do well and is shifting the population over by permanently banning them (I dont really believe this before ppl argue like im stating a fact)

I got banned for, I don’t even remember what, it was something really minor. Got a new account using Brave, and have been shadowbanned. Absolutely non-functional site for me now. Banning people based on upvotes though, holy shit. To suppress posts that people actually like? That’s the whole point of going there for me: the garbage gets knocked to the bottom where no one has to see it. Not anymore

reddit IDs people on thier browser fingerprint, among other metrics. if they see you hiding your fingerprint they will assume its botting and ban people regardless, (its not for all cases though).

Reddit has been doing this shit for years. It’s a big reason why I left. Spez (little piggie) was only the catalyst.

A few ban-happy,power tripping moderators did come over here, though. I don’t have specifics on that, I just know I’ve seen them, and I’ve also been banned for some real dumb shit. I just stay away from those communities/instances.
