But yes, Proton is as safe as it gets.

When I need to enter the code on my laptop, I just click the icon extension, which pings my phone, I accept the request and it auto-fills.
Firefox (hardened with this guide: https://www.privacyguides.org/en/desktop-browsers/#firefox) or Brave.
PeerTube might be the answer but don’t expect as many content.
5·3 years agoFirefox user here. For years I’ve been using Chrome. Moved to Firefox. Can’t say I miss Chrome or Chromium based browsers.

UI has in fact improved but I still find some apps (specially for iOS) somewhat tacky.
