Trump’s second term: literally too confusing, too extreme
Hi, it me.
Trump’s second term: literally too confusing, too extreme
I’ve really been struggling with seeing everything and just, at the end of the day, there’s nothing I can do. I will continue to vote and donate and protest, but… I really don’t think it matters anymore. The system is so out of whack, so built on trusting people in certain positions to act in a certain way, that when people don’t there’s no real guardrails to stop it. Maybe I’ve just grown nihilistic, but… Sure seems like we’re fucked.
Interesting! I’ll give that a try.
Gaming is my struggle, right now. On x11, I get stable framerates, but even though my benchmarks show 60+ fps, it sure looks lower to my eye. On Wayland, gameplay is smooth, but I keep getting this weird thing where after 20-30 minutes of gameplay I’ll get this weird input lag, where my mouse movement stops and then “catches up” every second or so, resulting in choppy gameplay despite the smooth framerate.
If I can figure that out, I’d happily drop my Windows partition.
I hope you’re right.
The first hurdle is getting over the fact that the US is huge and fragmented. Organizing a general strike so vast would be difficult, especially once you consider that any company, big or small, will have bootlickers, not just employers, that will actively work against you. Not a chance you could get more than 10% of the population on board. But, let’s say you get that far. Now you have the do everything “legally.”
Legally protesting is getting harder and harder to do. You have to strike in the right place, at the right time, in the right manner. Even then there’s a chance you get shut down with little ability for legal recourse without immense resources. Many protestors will likely end up in prison and many more will lose their jobs and probably homes. Trust me, the employers won’t care. There are thousands of applicants ready to take their place. But, if you can keep it going even after that, what happens next?
You might get a few “peace talks” that result in a 3-5% bump in wages, a stipend for childcare, and free coffee. Maybe some industries get a few small protections. There’s too much money from businesses flowing into Congress for anything more to happen.
And that’s that! You end up with wages that barely keep up with inflation, lots of people losing their jobs and homes, and most assuredly a more active and higher funded militarized police force than ever.
The days of American workers being able to make real change happen through striking are just gone.
Of course he does! It’s his brand. And his sycophants voters will back him on that. Because it’s too little too late to back out, now. Better to try to secure a spot on the boat than be pushed overboard. They’ll deny deny deny and offer alt “facts” until they’re out of breath to try to get their dry, scratchy tongues on those Oxfords (with elevators). Sadly for them, the boats already sinking, and they themselves put the holes in it so Trump could climb onboard.
“Unfortunately, we’ve found we need an addition trillion per year to ensure our salaries can continue to inflate.”
DESCRIPTION Lavender is an AI system that produces lists of Palestinians to be targeted for assassination by the Israeli military “with little human oversight and a permissive policy for casualties”, according to +972 Magazine.
Big yikes.
What?! They have very unique squiggles and bright colors! No one else is doing that.
I really don’t get the logic of redesigns like this or The Verge. Was the design team just told, “traffic is down make it look new so we can post a blog about it”?
I’m assuming one would still be able to switch to a local account after installation, but you really shouldn’t need to. What a shit show.
This was the plus side for me, too. I couldn’t care less who sees what I post on social media, but (so far) at least my information here isn’t harvested to target ads to me. In fact, I had gotten so used to seeing ads on Reddit and Twitter that I was numb to it. After a year+ here, when I go back to check on those, it’s all I notice and it’s terrible.
On the other hand, I didn’t sign up for Prime but have had it for 2 months now. Have yet to be charged and I can’t access the page to cancel it.
Really cool photo! Grand Haven? I need to get there when some big ships come through. Never seem to get the timing right and all I see are all the small ones with Trump flags on them 😅
Imagine spending hours writing and editing something with care only for an LLM to “summarize“ it, completely missing any nuance or sarcasm, removing any creative bits or humor, while also making the wrong point altogether. To top it off anyone unwilling to read your story, their time is valuable after all (but not yours, apparently), will now repeat the LLM’s interpretation to anyone they’d like, whether it’s accurate or not.
It’s an abysmal direction to go for misinformation and even more abysmal for writers. Good content becomes irrelevant and people become less and less willing to pay for a writer’s time and expertise. Why not write with an LLM if a large percentage of your readers summarize the piece with an LLM anyways? Just need more eyeballs to justify our Google Ads spending.
Built into a “private” browser or not, it’s just another nail in the coffin of a web built by and for humans.
Loving these foggy shots!
They’re good at finding dings. You know, like, how she’s super old and that’s gross.
Well, I’ve only changed distros a handful of times. But, I’ve broken my system more than a few times, as well. Back when I had more time I tinkered a lot more than I do now haha
We dropped them for good old blocklists, and so far we’ve actually seen less spam for our clients.
