The Wall Street Journal had reported that Ukraine had given in to pressure from the White House to stop bombing Russian energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian officials, however, told the Kyiv Independent newspaper that they never agreed to a demand from Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, to pause refinery strikes for 30 days. The raids on Russia restarted on Friday, Kremlin officials said, complaining that Kyiv was now “simply ignoring” US wishes.

Trump has blamed the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for the rise in global fuel prices, and last month lifted US sanctions on Russian diesel.

If they could arrange for Jared Kushner to take a one way tour to a Russian refinery, they could eliminate a pretty big share of global corruption.

Terrible journalist slop. Putting the blatant lies in the article, not refuting it with the facts that the fuel price increase is a direct consequence from the usa starting a war with Iran.

Nothing new here I don’t think. Ukraine has always said they are open to an energy ceasefire. If the orange fuckwit wants it to happen he’ll have to get Putin’s dick out of his mouth for long enough to beg him to agree to it.

Trump will go into history as the president who sat on his hands while he had the chance to permanently neuter a decades old ideological enemy.

Among other pants-on-head moronic moronic bullshit of course.

What’s the ideological threat? What ideology does Russia have that threatens the ideology of America? America’s ideology is neo-liberal imperialist capitalism. How does Russian’s imperialist agenda threaten america’s neo-liberal imperialist capitalism? To me, America and Russia are a lot more ideologically aligned than America and Europe.

WTF are you trying to argue?

Russia’s geo-political strategy requires weakening rival nations. That’s how we got Trump and Brexit. To claim that is not a threat is absurd and intellectually devoid

“Empire weakens rival nations as a tactic, more at 11”

Trump was a wet dream for neoliberals until he started a war with Iran what are you talking about? Neolibs love Russia. Neolibs love Brexit. Neolibs in America, the ideology of America, are not at all threatened by Russia. They are threatened by losing money and capital. Cozying up to Russia against Europe is completely okay with neoliberals. A european war is good for american neolibs. A weak Europe is good for American neolibs, and neoliberalism is the ideology of America since Reagan. American ideology, Neoliberalism, is under no threat by Russia. The amount of fear Russia instills is extremely valuable to America’s ideology.

The USA has a civilized tradition side by side to the uncivilized one, which got the upper hand in the last 10 years. Russia only has the uncivilized one.

The neoliberal order in America has existed since Reagan. Nothing happened in the past 10 years that changed anything about American ideology except the Iran War. Every other war and foreign intervention has been for the Neoliberal order. Including everything about the Ukraine war.

“Civilization” is a nationalist term. Only nationalistic ideology talks in civilized and uncivilized. Don’t bring up nationalism to me.

With such a one dimensional “USA is as bad as Russia” worldview you are probably a bot. I am responding for the sake of any human reading this thread.

The USA has done bad shit for sure, but it did things from time to time that are not easy to interpret as motivated by empire building. For example the intervention to the Yugoslav civil war to stop more genocide to take place. One can argue this was a show of power too, but they got no direct imperial benefit from it, so I believe the intent was more civilized than not. I definitely would have preferred the USA pushing back Russia to behind their borders from Ukraine instead of the 4 years of suffering. Putin would have sucked it up.

On the note of “civilization being nationalistic” you are getting it totally wrong. You are mistaking it for culture. Civilization is a behavior, people and organisations can behave civil almost anywhere in the world. Culture is a collection of encouraged and discouraged behaviors, civil behavior being one of them. Some cultures support civilized behavior, others don’t. Russian culture does not. USA has this cultural split, one side of which supports civilization the other doesn’t.

        That’s right. They are a geo-political threat.

EDIT: Actually I’m going to contradict myself. Russia actively tries to prop dicators in the US. They are an ideological threat. Not because that threat was also active internally that you can’t consider them a threat.

The problems with the US go deeper than just their leadership. The country flings its arms open wide and gleefully embraces fascism every 4 or 8 years and this is getting even worse as technofascist corporations gain more and more control over ever branch of US government.

No country should ever trust the US again until it undergoes some serious internal changes.

The inevitable conclusion of capitalism is oligarchy. “But with regulations it’s ok!”- yeah, the only way to make capitalism not enslave and kill us all is to inhibit capitalism from performing its natural function.

unfortunately there is limited and diminishing confidence that americans will do the right thing. Winston Churchill once said that americans will always do the right thing … after they’ve tried everything else. I’m not sure the world can survive waiting while america tries everything else. We’ll be well into WWIII .

I don’t think you should be discounting the Iran war like that. Unless you’re combining them both with whatever other conflicts that are bound to come up into a WW2.5 if not a full blown WW3.
