The government is budgeting $2 billion over eight years with a target of retrofitting one million homes.
Households below the median income level can get up to $10,000 back on a heat pump purchase, while other homeowners can get $2,000 by switching to a heat pump.
Ottawa is in the process of winding down an existing program to subsidize purchases of heat pumps for homes heated with oil. As of March, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program helped to install more than 30,000 heat pumps across the country.
This is great news. Now if only the heat pump installers wouldn’t bump their fees by $2k.
This might be perfect timing for me, depending on how my furnace does.
I could not give a flying fuck. How about making life affordable for 80 percent of Canadians who can’t afford to buy a home?
just mandate only heat pumps can be sold. don’t give the option for AC only. they are literally the same condenser, just with a reversing
cablevalve and a few other minor changes. But you’ll need the ones with the heater coils as well. Heat pumps only work down to a certain temperature.
This should have been new building code 20 years ago.

I don’t have anything buried.
what gets buried? are you thinking geothermal?
inside the house is no equipment difference. same blower/furnace works, same ductwork, same evap coil. it’s an identical install.
companies charging more because it’s a heat pump is instead of an AC is a joke…
manufacturing materials is 200-300 extra on the condenser at retail price. ohh theres a reversing valve and an accumulator.
Interesting. My current heat pump is broken and probably needs replacing next year. I wonder if I’ll be able to get that 2k rebate.
you have to make less than $70,000 a year.
Is 70;000 the median household income?
That’s only to get the full 10k, for a 2k rebate everyone is eligible I believe.
