I’ve been tracking my drinks for 2 years, first time I reach such a sober streak - and I feel really better!

I am glad you are free to do what you want with your own body. I will get to be free to choose for myself one day when the drug war ends.

    Congrats!!!

Given how much everything around us tries to push us to drink, you can be proud!

When I quit smoking tobacco, I waited as long as i could to have my first smoke of the day. Some days I made it very far, some days I lit up right when I woke up. Eventually I made it through a whole day.

It accelerated pretty fast after that cause once I got a few days under my belt, I felt positive reinforcement. Relapsing didnt crush my spirit, I could be so happy with how much time I “earned” last go around. Not bad that I failed to “quit”. This really flipped the script for me. I felt stronger as I kept trying rather then pulled apart and broken down.

If being hard on yourself worked, we would be perfect by now.

Fantastic job, it is very difficult.

Remember this moment, know that you did it, and if needed you’ll do it again.

Great job! Try to make a year!

If for some reason you fail to make a year, come back to this message and read this:

    spoiler

Don’t beat yourself up over a day or two. Have a goal and strive for it. But don’t let a slip-up consume you. A year sober minus two days is still 99.5% sober. That’s an A+ in my grade book. No reason not to strive for improvement, to make it to 100% next year. But never lose sight of what you’ve already accomplished so far. You did it once. You can do it again. Reflect on your thought process. Think of what emotional or material state lead you to relapse. Maybe write or journal about it now. Hopefully this will help your future self avoid that trap again. But otherwise, don’t let this drive you further down. You are human. This is normal. Most addictions take multiple relapses to cure. Give yourself some compassion. You slipped up once, but that just means it’s time to start a new winning streak.

i agree with all of this. it’s human nature to fail, and as long as you’re still genuinely trying and heading the right direction your behavior is admirable.
