They both started good but got progressively worse with each revival until J. J. Abrams destroyed them both.
I’ll always be more of a Star Wars fan, though, since I grew up in a time when Star Wars was still good but Star Trek was already going down the toilet.

Hmm. I can’t imagine exactly when that is. Both of them have kinda been swirling the drain off-and-on since their inceptions. Star Trek’s OG series has as many absolutely terrible episodes as great ones. This is Star Trek’s MO. TNG and DS9 are some of the more consistent Trek series, but even those have their share of bad episodes. The movies are also a mixed bag. Nu-Trek is just awful, but at least the IP has redeemed itself somewhat with Strange New Worlds and the Lower Decks.
The first Star Wars is only good thanks to some fantastic editing and effects. Empire is the only legitimately great Star Wars movie. Then the Ewoks arrived and it’s been downhill since then with maybe the exception of some of the newer series (Mandalorian, Andor) that I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch since I’ve been nothing but disappointed with Star Wars since I went to see the prequels in the theaters when they came out. I’m sorry, but whatever weird cultural significance the prequels have ironically managed to attain, they are awful movies and do nothing but shit on the already-tarnished legacy of the franchise. Then, the sequels doubled-down and made Star Wars completely unwatchable. Maybe some of the newer series are pretty good, I’ll probably never find out.
As someone who hates all of star wars outside of the original trilogy, and even then, is sick to death of the trilogy and the star wars IP as a whole; please watch Andor.
It’s just incredible sci-fi that happens to take place in star wars, and it’s extremely relevant to our current times in a way no other show has really captured. It’s extremely well written, shot, scored, acted… It’s probably my favorite sci-fi thing ever, not just my favorite star wars media, and I’m a picky bastard.
It was so good I bought a bluray of it. It was even good enough to make me curious if the Mandalorian was comparable (it was not, not even close).
I really, strongly recommend you give it a shot despite the star wars label, I’d recommend sailing the high seas or grabbing the bluray of season 1 to avoid needing a Disney+ subscription.
