Western Marxists need to understand this too, they have such an idealist perspective on everything.
I begin with me, the center of the universe.
Now, time to examine the totality of existence one piece at a time and determine whether each piece is Good or Bad
Then we need to apply this to some LATAM Marxists too, specially Trots (but some MLs too, unfortunately).
LATAM marxists? I havn’t heard of this classification before.
I would have classified trots as western marxists. I didn’t know they had a LATAM following.
Trotsky lived in LATAM during exile. As such, Trots exist in LATAM more frequently than in other global south regions.
sometimes, it feels like western marxism is as such a degraded state that it can be better described as half-step-marxism.
You know how scientists will breed knockout animals, such as mosquitoes, with certain disease-carrying genes “knocked out”, with the idea that they’ll outcompete the natural variant in the wild and deny the pathogen a vector to spread? That’s how I see western marxism. Capital’s intellectual science project of creating a “marxism” incapable of threatening it in the real world, but that they could massively fund to occupy all the niches they wanted to deny to communists. The more explicitly political arm of all that Gloria Steinem, Jackson Pollock type shit. A controlled subculture used to misdirect the revolutionary potential of the many points of struggle at that time, pacifying them into navel-gazing individualism by stoking their intellectual chauvinism on the one hand and invoking the image of the authoritarian bad communist on the other, conditioning the culture to produce Chomskies and Zizeks instead of Lenins and Maos.

The advanced list is abandoned for now BTW, I’ll return after lots more study. The basic is the only one I recommend for now.
Are you considering adding Ilyenkov? I think his works are a great source to understand dialectics in their development.
I haven’t read Ilyenkov, do you have any specific recommendations? Currently I have Maurice Cornforth’s work on dialectical materialism to establish a firm base, but I would love alternatives to explore and refine the list!
