Sony went on to say that it takes a “firm stance” against such behavior, which includes examples like “persistent and repeated, or prolonged, demands, excessive or unreasonable demands for compensation or apologies, and abusive language, threats, slander, and other similar behaviors.”
Other examples included “forcing someone to prostrate themselves” and “visiting our offices or related facilities without permission.” If any such behavior is confirmed, Sony says it may “restrict or suspend customer service” to protect its employees — and, if necessary, contact “police, lawyers, etc.” to take legal action or begin criminal proceedings against them.
unreasonable demands for apologies
You’re gonna have to explain that one. How is demanding an apology unreasonable? I think you just dug yourself deeper into the wrong side of this.
‘Member when Neil Druckmann and Sean Murray got personal death threats from Sony’s customers and Sony didn’t do shit. Hell Shuhei Yoshida even threw Murray under the bus for the PR hype disaster of No Man’s Sky during post release interviews instead of standing up for him even though Sony helped Hello Games in hyping the game.
Only now when Sony execs get threatened they do something.
What a way to piss away all thst image building over two decades at least. They put so much effort in being at all the right events, the cool stuff.
Nintendo and Microsoft never were that good in this. Who would’ve thought they’d tear it all down themselves.
What a time to be alive.
Sony had better prepare themselves to have pretty quiet chats during their State of Plays, if the one from this morning was any indication. Walls of text that would make China blush wanting Destiny continued and making the displeasure of physical disc production cancelation known would probably fit under this new policy.
Leave it to Sony to come up with new and innovative ways to harass customers.
Don’t forget how they installed rootkits onto all their customers’ computers back in the 00’s via albums
You’re doing God’s work
Keep it up
I’m so glad I jumped from the PlayStation wagon at the end of the PS4 cycle!
“Customer Harrasment Policy”
One of the best post titles I have read in a long time.
Now hiring customer disservice representatives
No way this doesn’t “Streisand Effect” the fuck out of them, nope a totally smart play by Sony
They continue to make things worse. As of now I’m not touching anything with the name Sony on it. May be a permanent decision.
Be careful, that sounds like a form of harassment and Sony may take action against you!
It’s time to stop being a Sony customer then. I mean, I’ve not bought a single PlayStation in my entire life so, that’s a start.
This is such a Japanese business thing to do. I’m not even surprised. I understand the need to protect your employees, especially when Japan has a history of whackos damaging businesses that sometimes result in deaths, but this is going a bit far IMO. I think they could comply with Japan’s new law about worker protection without needing to go this route.
In Japan, laws have pretty much always been dictated by big businesses, just look at their defamation laws. Even if what you say is true, if it harms the company in any way, you will still be arrested and are basically guaranteed to lose a case in Japan for that.
I am interested to see if they try to implement this outside Japan. I mean, Japanese businesses almost always try to apply Japanese law outside Japan (most famously, Nintendo), but still interesting to see if it happens.
“I have now come to claim that satisfaction.”
