Surpass as in number of users, no. Outlive, I sure hope so.
It is underrated, and I’d love to see more people knowing about alternatives to big tech companies and services, I also hope it never happens. Reddit is full of annoying, rude trolls and dipshits. I am glad Lemmy has a pretty polite userbase.
It’s a dilemma… We need more users… But doing so will also bring in more dipshit and organizations astroturfing content.
Do we really need more users though? Lemmy is like original Reddit right now which is much better IMO.

Also with Reddit, it’s a simple central place to go. No need to find a specific lemmy instance with which to register first.

In terms of how much I look at each site, it recently has. Reddit has a higher percentage of rubbish than I can be bothered with now.

It’s inevitable that reddit will die or become some bot only limbo. Users gotta go somewhere. Subtract the ones that have had enough and leave social media altogether and sprinkle the remainder across 10 or so minor sites. That’s what will happen. For one of those sites to become the next reddit - some site is going to have to make a big noise and attract a lot of attention. Could it be Lemmy? Maybe.
Reddit is riddled with chatbots, and so are all other social media platforms. What’s needed right now is a few new sites without any chatbots at all. Hopefully, real soon, some people will create some that will be entirely chatbot free 🙏✅✨

Not nearly as frequently as on Reddit, largely because there’s little to no advertising on Lemmy.
