I saw a post form somewhere on jlailu in the feed here, but it’s gone now.
They’ve got subs /r/france and /r/forumlibre. How can I join them without making an account over there? Is there any interface other than just hand writing out what the url would be?
The question is somewhat confusing because in the Lemmy interface there isn’t really a difference between local and remote communities. If you can access a remote community from your instance, you have the same subscribe button there as on a local one. Difficult to help you without knowing what you’re currently doing and seeing.

You can go to the !france@jlai.lu and !forumlibre@jlai.lu communities and click the subscribe button on the sidebar.

What is an instance?
The site. Lemmy.world is one example (and, since your account is here, the one I’d select), jlai.lu is another. Is this a message you’re getting from some app? I haven’t seen that from the default web UI.
Yeah. The full message is

I got an error when I put in old.lemmy.world. But it claimed to work with lemmy.world.
I don’t see them in my subscriptions yet. I don’t know if it didn’t work or if it takes time to process.
Interesting, I see that message when attempting to subscribe while not logged in. When you click on !france@jlai.lu / !forumlibre@jlai.lu, does it show your username in the upper right corner or give you the “log in or sign up” text?
Also, I had a message saying “Subscribe Pending” in the sidebar button for a minute or two but it did go through eventually. Sometimes things are just a little slow.
