Headline buried the lede:
Police escort Dr. Steven Kahn out of a medical conference in New Orleans for handling out copies of an editorial critical of the Trump administration
“Trump administration’s ongoing attacks on scientific research” is the rest of the quote ur missing here that I feel adds context. I feel like it’s fair to call out Trump for attacking the scientific community at a scientific conference, which his goons then gave him the boot for being critical of the regime. What times we live in…
Fuck me. And people wonder why I have headaches all the time.
Maybe you should stop inviting people to do the nasty to you?
Silly, it’s the cure for a headache. Too much tension isn’t good for you.
I don’t know man… It sounds incorrect to me.
If they all started cancelling their ADA memberships, the association would immediately back down.
No, it’s a cartel. You don’t get to just not participate in a cartel. If you split off, you will be attacked and defamed until you submit or perish.
Good point, but at this juncture, it still might be the correct decision.
How may we be of help destroying the ADA?
Step 1: have millions of dollars worth of “speech”.
Shouldn’t all the diabetic MAGAs be seeing a Christian chiropractor and knocking back ivermectin for that there dyubeetuz? Science is communism!!1!11!!1
Like it or not, they did violate their code of conduct.
Distributing Political and Critical Material: The attendees were handing out copies of an editorial article previously published in the American Diabetes Association’s own journal. The text criticized the current government administration for drastically cutting scientific and research funding.Protesting Near Scheduled Speakers: The leafleting took place right before the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was scheduled to speak at the conference.Breaching the Attendee Guidelines: The ADA strictly prohibits unapproved leafleting, demonstrations, or political protesting under its Attendee Code of Conduct. The policy states that all participants must act in a professional and respectful manner, keeping the conference “centered on advancing diabetes science”.
Ahh, the decorum argument, used often by fascists.
Hmmm. NO.
It’s often used by people that would like to keep order in their meetings.
I have no doubt that the guy was 💯 % right in his position and paper. I also have no doubt that the board has a 💯 % interest in keeping their meeting on topic. He is more than welcome to bring the topic up during an open topic discussion and/or to pass his info out, outside of the confines of the building that the group rented.
If I (Barney Rubble) want to call a meeting of the Water Buffalos and Joe Dirt wants to pass out his literature about how over-fishing is killing the buffalo industry, we, the Water Buffalo board (Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble and Pebbles) have every right to ask you to stop. If you don’t stop, we have every right to have you removed.
That’s not fascism, that’s order. You’re more than welcome to call your own meeting of the over-fisher’s complaint group on your own dime.
In what way?
