I try not being hungry when I go grocery shopping, it helps.
Oddly enough, the same trick doesn’t seem to work for trips to the liquor store.
Because they spread all the most useful shit as far out as possible so that you have to walk through everything else to get to it. It drives sales unfortunately.
If it’s not on the list I don’t buy it. If the store keeps shuffling shit all the time I’ll just buy less from there if possible.
This doesn’t happen to me. Two reasons: 1) I get fed up quickly when shopping, I just want to leave, 2) I don’t have a lot of money so if I can’t afford it and I don’t need it it’s very likely I won’t grab it. Occasionally I get an item or two that wasn’t on my list but that’s about it.
More often than not I return home and there’s still items from the list I didn’t get, either because it was more expensive than reasonable or because I said fuck it let’s leave and I’ll figure it out later
I went shopping earlier for onions. Ended up getting onions, a couple pizzas on sale, some Easter chocolate (also on sale)…
This is one of my favorite places I have lived. Why?
I can walk to the market, and 2 days a week a local bakery drops off actual “it gets moldy in less than a week” fresh sliced bread (US, for those wondering what I’m on about).
And 2, not far away is a dairy farm where I can exchange my glass jar for a discount on another jar of fresh milk.
Easier now twin does the shopping and I text the list so sometimes the list grows too much.
Capitalism researched how to push people to buy “last minute decision” items like crazy
Everyone you need to stick with the list. Run in, grab what you need and leave like you stole it.
The checklist app works better if you use it “backwards”. I have a big list that includes things I buy only occasionally, like paper towels, laundry detergent, condoms, toothpicks, body bags, etc. So, I put a check next to what I need to buy, and then turn the check off when I get it, so I can leave everything on the list.
