Yes, it’s worth a read. It’s like a distilled version of Bruce Cummings books but with anti-imperialist lenses.
Sounds good. Thanks.
I haven’t finished reading it, but it is where I learned about occupied Korea’s reuse of Axis personnel and where I learnt about how the Eastern Bloc prevented a famine from occurring in the DPRK. The author incorrectly stated that the DPRK never deployed military forces outside of Korea, but otherwise I have yet to notice any other mistakes.
When has the DPRK deployed military forces outside of Korea? Not saying you’re incorrect, just want to know more.
In Vietnam they deployed up to 200 aviators. Saad El Shazly said that only twenty DPRK troops (or rather pilots) were sent to Egypt. There are rumours that Pyongyang sent some 3,000 troops and military advisers to Angola, but Angolan officials denied that. I haven’t found other cases beyond these two or three (unless you count sending military advisers to the Rep. of Iraq as deploying troops), and overall, these deployments were meagre compared to what the dictatorships of the bourgeoisie deployed.
