If they shoot someone raiding a house I don’t know if there would be a trial at this point though. I’m not saying you should do some solo stand-your-ground thing and get yourself killed, but it doesn’t seem like it would make a difference if you even owned a gun or not as far as their legal justification, even if there was a trial they could say they feared for their life. Police have shot people sleeping in bed and gotten away with it.

Police also have framed people or claimed afterward that because they owned a gun more force was required and necessary.
