the remaining differences are mostly about aesthetics and not about the use of violence to maintain hegemony

You know, I’ve been keeping my mouth shut because I don’t know that much about Venezuela…

But now that Maduro’s VP has expressed a willingness to cooperate with Trump, I think everyone who disputed the claims that Maduro and Chavismo were corrupt has some explaining to do.

I feel like the leftists who supported Chavismo and the right-wingers who backed US intervention should all go out for drinks and commiserate over their foolishness for thinking that they could overlook their allies obvious corruption. Am I wrong?

The claims Maduro stole the election are bullshit, but even if they weren’t, the US and EU wielded sanctions like a club against Venezuela to drop a big weight on the scales.

Crazy to see people smile benignly while US Presidents shake hands with Saudi Kings and Egyptian Dictators, only to discover their love for democracy when a socialist they don’t like secures a 7-pt election lead.

If the J6ers had all been Venezuelan, I wonder if liberals would have stood back and let the US Congress get lynched?

I’m not saying both sides are equally culpable. Obviously Trump, Biden, Obama, and all of their Sec. of State are the primary villain.

The problem is that you’re confidently adopting a line convenient for the state department on shaky allegations.

Delcy Rodríguez is sworn in as Acting President of Venezuela. She says she is doing so as “Executive Vice President of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro Moros.” She states that she does so “with the pain of the Venezuelan people after an illegitimate military aggression in our homeland, due to the kidnapping of two heroes we have as hostages in the United States: President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. I come with pain, but I also come with honor, to swear in the name of all Venezuelans.”

Rodríguez isn’t cooperating with the US. Rubio made it seem like she is, but the government of Venezuela is consolidated around Maduro, and the millitary also supports him due to the legacy of the Bolivarian revolution.

100% false. Do not trust anything just because “Trump says” or “Rubio says”

Maduro’s VP has expressed a willingness to cooperate with Trump

What makes you think that? Is your news diet limited to Fox/CNN/NPR/etc?

FYI here is a translation of her speech, and here is the video of it.

Her subsequent statement (on Instagram, in English, and which some media is describing as “conciliatory” while selectively quoting from it) can be read here. When you read it in full you can see she is not recanting her earlier statement and is clearly still not distancing herself from Maduro. She is (consistently with him) imploring the US to follow international law and respect Venezuelan sovereignty.

Yes, you are wrong. You are also parroting Marco Rubio with the false allegations against Delcy Rodríguez. So, not just wrong but wrong, dishonest, arrogant, and gullible.

Please go back to keeping your mouth shut.
