Wait, doesn’t the airpod completely mistranslate and misreprestent the thing that it heard in this format usually? Because if so, this meme is actually (accidentally?) mocking tankies.

Its a leninist/marxist echo chamber. Those are the white-listed talking points. If you say things that aren’t on the white-list, you’ll get to meet the stalinists.

It can be a bit of an echo chamber, sure, but that last point is isn’t accurate - it would be for hexbear, but ml does allow dissenting opinions.

(note: downvoted doesn’t mean ‘not allowed’)

Yes that is true. I did not make that distinction. Lemmy.ml isn’t a bad place. But if someone says “capitalism is a good system” or even soemthing like “I like the idea of communism, but not how its implemented” and gets downvoted into oblivion, it discourages them to speak their mind. Eventually you’ll get segregated communities with only one kind of opinion, an echo chamber.

That isn’t bad perse. If you want to make memes with only likeminded people, or if you want to have in-depth discussions about the things you like, that’s a good thing. That’s the power of the fediverse. The problem is that by all intents and purposes, lemmy.ml is the default instance for people that want to join lemmy. So that “segregated community” with the specific ideologies and the downvotes will be their first impression of lemmy.

I really don’t think this is true. When I google “Lemmy” or “Lemmy signup” I only get join-lemmy.org. When you press “Join a Server”, it asks you about language and interests only. By default, it will give a random sorting, instead of the “most active” option. To be fair, the “most active” option gives you .ml as a first result if you previously selected all topics, general, politics or technology as interests, but this whole situation doesn’t seem like .ml is the instance most new users will automatically flock to.

If it were actually any sort of echo chamber you’d be banned, you clearly aren’t, try being honest

I think it’s more that Lemmy.ml is naturally a really good spot for agitprop, normally, for Marxist-Leninists. It isn’t really an echo chamber, because it’s one part on the fediverse in the English speaking world, it’s not like Marxists can just shut out the rest of the english speaking world and the liberalism it has.

Plus, not sure what you mean by “Stalinist” as opposed to Marxist-Leninist. “Stalinist” is just a pejorative for Marxist-Leninist largely used by those wishing to invoke western fear of Stalin, Stalin’s own theoretical contributions to Marxism-Leninism are minimal compared to Marx, Engels, and Lenin.

Different agitprop works better or worse for different people! I tend to get a good amount of success anecdotally, but that doesn’t mean my comments and posts will work well for you. And that’s okay! Just means another type might work better for you.

I’ll be honest. You’d hold the opinion that both China and the US are holding campaigns against certain ethnities. China is messing with the Muslim kurks and the US is trying it with trans/browns
