Old luxury cars are the bomb. My girlfriend has an 84 Cadillac Eldorado project that has a cig lighter and ash tray for every seat - which is awesome on road trips when everyone wants a device charger. Plus they’re super super comfortable. Even on old suspension it feels like riding on a floating couch.

Now if only the engine swap we did could keep any of its engine oil inside the oil pan, it’d be great…

My parents had an '88 Marquis that had cigarette lighters in the back doors. On a road trip as a kid, I learned how quickly those lighters heat up: pretty fast. Don’t test it yourself.

Ha my mom had a Cadillac, pretty sure even the same year, and my little brother also found out the hard way about those lighters.

Yes they were. My grandfather had an old Lincoln town car and he smoked like a train and the driver ash tray was always full. And he would drive with the driver window open even if it was snowing or raining and the water would get into the ash tray and omg! The door below the tray looked like an oil spill.

Ah. The memories of being a wee kid and heating them up. And touching the red hot element. I think that’s one of those experiences that everyone that has been near them as a kid has had.

I did it once back in '96 I think I’m a friend’s car that was a vomit of a post soviet auto industry. And then did it again few months ago while explaining what’s that thing in our VW golf to my kid.

If you were fast, there was a neat trick where you could use them as a bottle opener too.

And some actually did just straight up have bottle openers.

Idk about this one, although it does look like it is, but some were removable, so you could clean them and more easily use that nub to open bottles.

The comment got deleted between when I read it and upvoted it but now I’m curious if any modern cars, maybe in other countries besides the US have ashtrays included standard? They were saying they’d seen an Audi model that had one as late as 2017? Which might be true, I don’t get in Audis often but they always have a lot of doohickeys
