World News@lemmy.world•Chinese social media hails Trump's Maduro move as Taiwan templateEnglish
2·1 month agoMaduro had been cooperating with the Chinese military quite a bit before being deposed. Venezuela is about 1000 miles from the Panama Canal. If the US has to respond to a Taiwan invasion we definitely dont want any problems with the Canal. Also, preventing Venezuelan oil from reaching China is likely a strategic reason for the invasion. Defense analyst and Marines veteran Ryan Macbeth mentioned it in a recent video and I havent heard it anywhere else but it makes sense. Not to excuse the actions against Maduro and especially the timing of it, but it’s not inconceivable that the Biden admin was considering similar moves.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Only 3 People Mentioned in "We Didn't Start the Fire" Are Still AliveEnglish
1·1 month ago3 day old reply but immediately after reading your comment I figured maybe you weren’t familiar with the Beastie Boys “Stop That Train” from the Paul’s Boutique album. Around 0:55 they can be clearly heard full-naming Mr. Goetz.
Or maybe you’re a fan and never realized you had heard him called Bernhardt? Anyways cheers
Mostly convinced it’s a psyop, thank Cambridge Analytica and Putin’s goons.
Oh that makes more sense, yeah. However, I’m not sure theres 100% an unbroken line but Ancient Greeks had the word pitta, meaning flatbread and *bheid- is the Proto-Indo-European root meaning to split or to bite that it comes from. So it seems potential time travelers asking for pizza by name stand a decent chance of getting the point across right back into the neolithic.
Technically even 2500BC in ancient Sumer they had flatbreads and the ability to bake them with toppings, I think potentially you’re underestimating the age of the pizza by an order of magnitude.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•"Refrigerate after opening and store in the refrigerator door." Why the door for this mayo?English
1·1 month agoOpening the door regularly helps agitate and keep the mayonaise from overly congealing.

This seems way too soft, like isn’t it supposed to firm up a bit before you poop it out? Like, if I wipe 3 times and I still have soft poop behind the sphincter that ain’t right. Ideally I’m thinking like ripe peeled banana or a little harder, you know? Actually drop a few logs rather than the soft-serv shape from the emoji. Maybe this is 80s-90s thinking though, from when dog poop was white.
I’m pretty sure that 12 year old temple prostitute was preganant when Joseph won her by raffle.
Could be we just aren’t eating enough uncooked whole, live frogs in our modern diet. Someone has to volunteer to gulp down a few to see if their probiotics cure their cancer, throw some newts in for good measure. If we don’t get proof that works at a citizen science level, pharma companies will at best brew the bacteria in a lab and sell it back to us at exorbitant prices. Who will be the next Jonas Salk?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come hypothetically if I make meth in my home. Knowing full well it could explode and take out my neighbors houses, why am I not charged with attempted murder?English
2·2 months agoI thought it was more noxious fumes from meth production that were the main hazard, rather than explosivity.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your "great I am an old person now" complaint?English
5·2 months ago(Again)
I downloaded all 4 zip files from the release today and converted the thousands of single-image pdfs to jpg for easy browsing, it comes out to 1.5gb and 8400 or so images. A lot of pictures are of rooms assumably taken at Li’l St. James or another of Epstein’s properties. Contents of drawers, closets, scrapbooks, paper effects, photos and paintings. I’m maybe a quarter of the way through, there have been a few photos but nothing with Trump in them.
I encourage anyone else to download and convert the files and browse through them. I thought there would be hundreds of thousands though, not 8400.
Relatedly, Mankind (Mick Foley) has distanced himself from WWE

1·2 months agoI mean let’s count - boomers, gen x, millenials, gen z is only 4 generations later. Generation gamma or delta can decide if it’s a redeemable symbol and I cant imagine they’ll care all that much what their great (great) grandparents generation thought about it.

2·2 months ago1 occasionally the user base freaks the fuck out and starts spamming the same thing, like this. I don’t like Nazis, but that also means I don’t want literally everything on my funny picture site to be about keeping them out. 2 increasingly all the popular stuff isn’t memes at all, but shitting on trump and musk.
Doesnt sound all that different from here especially on #1, case in point beans, jeans and more recently corn for some reason

2·2 months agoMy neighbor uses Imgur as his main social media. I take that with a grain of salt though since he’s a millenial who only used flip phones til 2022, there are dozens like him, dozens!

I’d like to take this opportunity to recommend viewing Lemmy with All rather than Subscribed, it’s obviously the superior way to enjoy the site. Also I probably have the most blocked sublemmys of any user because I am a very fussy person who dislikes a lot of things for petty reasons.
