    For me, the ideal situation is where we see autnentic stories about the LGBTQIA+ community, and the money made from telling/selling those stories actually goes to members of that community

    None of that requires all queer roles to be only played by publicly-queer actors, and yet here we are :S

      This also just wasn’t an instance of queerbaiting. There was no hinting at a fictitious same-sex relationship just enough to attract a queer audience while not offending straight people (the definition of queerbaiting). He plays a bi character in a same-sex relationship and made no secret that he as a real person did not want to publicly identify his sexuality, at least not yet. The claim was queerbaiting, but I think it’s nothing but celebrity gossip instincts wrapped up in a garb of respectable academic discourse.

    My husband’s been pretty upset over this. He adores Kit Conner, one of the two leads in the LGBTQ teen drama Heartstopper. Fortunately, show members, most of the fan base, and members of related shows have rallied around Kit.
