There seems to be more and more of these reactionary socialists popping up. They somehow assume the capitalists will just allow them to be democratically elected and take their wealth from them. How can they be this naive, are they controlled opposition?
It seems they’re too scared to move further left because they still believe all the scary things about ML states, but when pressed on how they would defend their new socialist state from capitalists/imperialists, they hand wave it away with vague ideas of cooperation.
What is the best way to deal with them, and how many here were DemSocs before becoming MLs? If so, what convinced you?
Be patient. Many of us went through DemSoc phases too. The contradictions are sharpening and ideology is born through experience.
When their progressive heroes ultimately fail/betray them, a lot of them will become more radicalized.

I grew up in a tory household where my pig of step dad was a proud fascist.
Got to uni and eventually went socdem.
Left uni and became an anarchist.
Here I am after years of self reflection and encouragement from a friend who was a communist im now myself a proud communist.
Lots of soc dems are just victims to their own countries propaganda and chauvinism. Hell even the girl who tried to drag me left as teens is an idealistic anarchist sometimes.
I’ve likened it to abuse in how it controls your thought and how hard it is to break away. You’re forced to conform to a particular thought all your life in the west. To break away from that an stand in opposition while everyone around drinks up the (UK in this scenario) propaganda is scary.
As communists, lending support and comradery to any socdem questioning is what we need to do. These people know somethings wrong but on their own struggle to break the conditioning.
The trick however is that for every potential new comrade there’s 50 socdems that are absolutely chauvinistic western clowns. We can’t waist our time on these people. We need to focus on engaging the ones who show potential i feel (at least for now) because the rest just follow the crowd. So let’s give them a crowd to follow and eventually we might be able to get through to the dead ends of western “leftists”.
