Yep. This is why politically advocating for privacy by default is so important, albeit its not going well lmao.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•You Should Stop Using Meta (Facebook) Products at All Costs
7·13 天前Only have messenger left. Considering doing another push to convince my stubborn friends to go on signal. Then I can finally be rid of meta
My ex and I broke up for a few reasons.
First I think we couldnt handle conflict, in the sense of bringing it up even if it was needed.
Second, we lived far away. This one definitely effected it a lot, as its hard to not see them as a friend u meet up with occasionally.
Third, I came out as trans, so we both made the decision it was best to move on since my ex is straight.
Currently we are just friends, which is for the better.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The promise of quantum computing breaking the cryptography is a lie.
3·27 天前Energy requirements scale exponentially on a polynomial time algorithm? That doesnt make sense. I admit however I have only studied quantum computers in relation to what they can do, not how. But I hope what I am saying makes sense.

1·27 天前Not a physisct, so I dont known how much scaling of quantum computers can actually be done

4·27 天前With regards to extracting the private key from the public key, to my knowledge there is shors algorithm that runs in polynomial time on a quantum computer that solves integer factorisation.
Solve integer factorisation in P and you break RSA in P. I believe there are similar P algorithms that run on quantum computers for the discrete logarithm problem and elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem.
In this sense, if you scale quantum computers resources enough you break modern asymmetric cryptography.
With regards to breaking AES: Quantum computers halve the security. So 256 bit security goes to 128 bits. Still secure.
AES 128 goes to 64 bits of security. Hmmm maybe not secure anymore. Have a read of post quantum cryptography and shors algorithm to see what im on about
EDIT: added important details
Edit 2: so so many typos

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Voting should not be a given right, but be earned insteadEnglish
3·1 个月前You misunderstand power. Imagine the support for a facist military coup if the right wing couldn’t vote.
As someome who is trans, yes these people are kind of my enemy (given declarations of violence), but there needs to be a way to rebuild trust within them so they aren’t so pyschotic. That is, to engage in politics. Doesn’t mean you should nice about any bigotries they have, and in fact point them out continously and condemn it.
The other option, is some level of violence. Not nice, and I would like you to consider the fact that facists love violence, so we aren’t gonna win that way.
Edit: just fixed a sentence.
Oh yeah i just mean delete the app to make me stop looking at it. It was an addiction for me. Well, not facebook but instagram was.
There is an end to end encrypted feature, with a 6 digit pin to decrypt the keys I believe. a 6 digit pin isnt the most secure, but its better then nothing for typical conversations.
Annoyingly there is a feature that u can summarise texts with using AI, which ofc breaks privacy, but u can turn off message sharing (meaning you and the other person can no longer do that)
A few glaring alarm bells around privacy on messenger, but again, better then nothing.
The toxicity of instagram and the hollow content on facebook made me delete them. I still have messenger however, since convincing people to install signal is difficult, and also it is useful to communicate with new friends (considering the alternative is unencrypted sms)
But wow its so good to be off it

Technology@lemmy.world•'My heart is empty': Millions of Chinese forced to end AI relationshipsEnglish
27·1 个月前My god we’re in a dystopian hell. I feel so fucking sad for these people :(
At least now the AI wont distract them from their loneliness so hopefully they contront it.
Signal. Requires little technical knowledge, other then knowing about end to end encryption and why its important
I would like to use matrix since if anything, I think its cool. But noone I know would be remotely interested.
It depends on the evidence for the accusation just like anything else. I admit, for most accusations I don’t have time so just move on. For more serious accusations, I would think about it more whether its true.
Sometimes the US makes shit up, sometimes it doesn’t. Same with China. I just have to take the time to determine if the evidence is sound, at least in principle.
Thanks for the write up. I’ll have a look at the sources you sent
I don’t know those terms tbh because Im just some pleb. i would welcome some simple explanation of it.
Wikipedia asserts “300 to 2700” dead, with the CCP asserted toll (according to wikipedia) being 241. That isn’t a peaceful dispersion, and, while not 10,000 people, is still a massacre.
I just don’t understand how events like this doesn’t substantially taint your image of them, in the same sense the stolen generation policies (for my country, Australia) are massive stains on my countries’ histories that we havent fully contented with.
But trying to relate it to what I my original comment, I worry about denials of mistakes that countries have made, results in failing to see their current mistakes. In particular aswell, seeing what would normally be considered a grave immoraility, to be seen in a much more positive light because its anti western imperialism.
What I am saying aswell, is this also distorts the truth of events or facts, in a similar manner to an average western citizen’s truth because of their aversion to china.
I think they aren’t the aggressor in the China/USA relationship. The US is in their “backyard” and has clearly surrounded them, and China is naturally nervous about it
I walked outside today, and after coming back immediately bought 5 thermal jumpers
Name one major western critic of china you agree with.
I’ll name a critic of the US: the cuba embargo for the past 70 has been a major disaster, and any deaths from economic collapse isnt due to cuba’s socialism, it is instead because of the US.
Do that, I’ll be far more willing to believe you.

Net losses im afraid. That said the recent anti flock movement is promising
