These kind of apps rapidly hit a wall due to the “Chicken or the egg” problem. Conglomerates like Match Group have deep pockets for colossal marketing spend, as well as an army of behavioural economist and sociologists to throw at the adoption problem.

I respect free open source work but I think one’s time is better spent solving niche problems. Go reverse engineer DSPs or something, we need brilliant people who are running the opposite direction of the Forbes 500.

I built a few somewhat successful social platforms during my career. Let that be a kind suggestion to you from a stranger who learned the fact after setting a few million of investor dollars on fire.

At work, I have built a tool that creates Linux images on demand. Long story short, I decided to give them a human readable alias. Told my colleagues that image aliases are generated from a pool of hand-picked bird names, and did not elaborate further.

I am looking forward to see the face of the first person to discover rough-faced-shag or cock-tailed-tyrant :^)

I also build a lot of things, mostly programmable electronics housed by 3D prints. I learned so much on the journey. What I learned, in my case, are mostly transferrable skills but I don’t care very much because I like it. I see it same as collecting vinyl records. It’s fun to build stuff without financial motives or external pressure.

When I moved out, I was in a hurry and bought one after testing it for comfort for about thirty seconds. Turns out, it is, and most their product are, drop-shipped, low quality garbage.

It started falling apart after a month. Been postponing the purchase for about two years because I am not able to find reliable sources of information to guide my purchase decision.
