Just Peertube. I’ve been orphaned from my Mastodon instance and I don’t think I’m going to sign up for another one.

As long as I can disable it or opt out of it, I don’t mind. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I don’t want videos recommended to me.

With Youtube, it’s not a big deal because I never log in there, I browse in private mode and set firefox to delete cookies. So when I go to Youtube, I just get a blank page with no recommendations.

But with Peertube, I need to login to get full functionality (federated search, etc). So I would need an option to turn off video recommendations or whatever.

As a computer guy, I can appreciate that working with data is cool - there’s a lot of neat stuff you can determine from it. As a user, it creeps me out. If I went my favorite restaurant, and the waitress recommended something based on the last 5 times I ate there, I would stop going to that restaurant.

My pet peeve is people downvoting in communities they aren’t subscribed to about posts they aren’t interested in. They just sort by new, and when they see something they don’t like, they smash that downvote button without even looking at the post or contents.

Part of it is because we all have unlimited votes; people vote without thinking. It would be different if everyone had a finite number of votes to use. And you get awarded a few votes for making a comment or post. Maybe award extra votes for commenting in small communities.

This would serve 2 purposes. 1.) People would use their votes a lot more thoughtfully. 2.) It would encourage people to comment and post more.

The downside is that someone could set up a bot to spam posts and comments into a dead community just to rack up votes.

Probably obscure if you’re under 50.

I own this on paperback, but haven’t read it yet. I’ve read The Time Ships(Stephen Baxter’s sequel) twice, but still haven’t gotten around to the OG. Shame on me.

Let’s face it, Nvidia doesn’t care if you buy a gaming card or not right now. You can complain, but they can’t hear you over their money counting machines.

Nvidia is only selling enough gaming cards to keep their market share from falling too low. All the rest of their silicon is allocated towards data center.

I don’t blame him. I hate it for the residents of those 3 states, but they need to blame Trump, not Ford.

As impressive as their “Ryzen moment” was, AMD still hasn’t gotten 50% of the market after half a decade.

As much as I love AMD, they will follow Nvidia because they’re a follower. They unlaunched the 9070 at CES because they were unsure about Nvidia’s pricing. They changed their naming scheme to match Nvidia.

They changed their laptop naming scheme to match Intel. They pushed their earnings release date back so they could report after Intel (Intel pushed their own back the previous quarter).

You see, sometimes people say, “Why are you always trailing?” Well, we’re trailing because we’re following the [Total Available Market] of where the market is, and we’re letting them create some of this market because they are the only ones that really can when you have the kind of position that they have in the industry. We have to time it.

AMD is content with being a second source supplier to Nvidia and Intel. After years of losses and near bankruptcy, AMD has finally figured out how to make a profit while being in second place. They’re in their comfort zone, and there’s no incentive for them to step out of it.

Good memories. Although, it’s a little embarrassing when Ajumma has her tent set up before you get your site set up. Generator, lights, gas stove, heater, tables, chairs, everything.

How spicy are you willing go go? My personal favorite right now is Beef Bone Broth; It’s definitely spicy, but not overpowering. My second fav is Buldak; the flavor is good, but it can be a little too hot at times.

Both are great for making omelettes.

Unfortunately, a certain government(all three branches) could make things very difficult for AMD if they don’t play ball.

And we make it worse by saying “Just pick one. It doesn’t matter what instance you’re on because they’re federated.”

Some people are going to be very upset to find their local feed is a lot of content they don’t agree with. Or when they go out into the fediverse and people automatically assume they’re an A-hole because of the instance they’re from. I mean, it’s generally not that bad, but there are a few instances that are that bad.

And for people like me who gravitate toward smaller instances, that instance is probably gonna die. Happened to me twice already, 4 times if you count Mastodon and Peertube.

I agree with CameronDev, not so much on the capacity, but the bandwidth. At 100+ Gb, the Ryzen/Core platforms are really holding you back with their weak I/O.

If you need that much memory, you might be better off picking up a used Xeon/Epyc from Ebay. Their CPU speeds are lower, but the quad channel RAM could make up for it, depending on what you’re trying to do.
