Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Australians banned teens from using social media. Now, Australians are worried about teenagers going outside with e-bikesEnglish
42·15 days agoResearchers said the findings showed both heavy use and social media abstinence may have risks for young people, who are at risk of social isolation.
This study shows that too much or too little social media use hurts kids. This ban hurts kids.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL “sleet” does not have the same meaning in all English speaking countriesEnglish

They kill peoppe, so you slightly annoy them and make them more tired/prone to outbursts. Winning strategy.
Damn what utter fucking legends.
When’s the next election so they can kick this scum out of office?

Climate@slrpnk.net•The $31 billion a year threat to the Australian dream: Climate change8·2 months agoThe Australian dream died in 2000. Millennials and younger have dropped to below 50% home owner ships rates and continuing to trend down.
It’s going to take the death of the boomer house owner generation for the media to accept this fact.
She did get support though, just the wrong group. Gendered services aren’t really the issue here, that aspect seems like it worked fine except that she was referred incorrectly.
You don’t know Australia.
This is the Victorian government support page for Domestic/Family Violence.
https://www.vic.gov.au/family-violence-statewide-support-services
You will notice under the men’s referral section it states:
Free, confidential expert support for people at risk of using family violence.
And when you follow the link to the referred service they state:
No to Violence provides a range of services to support men concerned about their behaviour to change what they are doing and keep women, children and communities safer.
Men are only the abusers in the eyes of the government in Australia.
It’s perfectly legal and fine in my country, it’s only the outer right lane that you must keep clear.
Why do you have an issue with people keeping both sides clear for people trying to exit? What a weird thing to be a shitcunt about.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is the FOSS world in danger of a corporate takeover, thanks to pushover licenses?
131·3 months agoI gotta say I’m a bit concerned about this whole corporate takeover thing goin on in FOSS land. If companies start slapdin’ MIT or Apache licenses on GPL software that’s supposed to be all about freedom and whatnot, it does seem like a bit of a cop-out and it could have some pretty serious consequences for the community.

I’ll stick to Matrix thanks
