Hi, I’m fairly new to the fediverse. Is there any alternatives for Facebook marketplace out there?
Unfortunately not. I think some areas have hashtags for that kind of stuff and someone is working on a new platform, but it’s not there yet.
Awesome, It will be interesting to see what it develops into!
marketplace is one of the last things holding me back from jumping off that platform I think.
Same. I only install and use FB when I need to sell something
Craigslist? AFAIK their business model is quite forward thinking.
People still use craigslist? Seems pretty niche at this point, but I could be wrong though. Also, how is their business model forward thinking, how do you mean?
CL is huge in larger metro areas like LA or SF Bay area. I’ve bought and sold many vehicles plus smaller stuff.
No ads and a flat design that hasn’t changed in years. I could be wrong though, I’m not in the US, I just read about it.
Hi, I’ve recently read here on Lemmy an article stating that an extension of the ActivityPub protocol to support facebook marketplace’s like transaction is being considered, but I don’t have any more detail
That’s exciting to know. Thanks for sharing!
What country are you in? They have Gumtree in the UK and Australia. My gumtree feedback page is one of my lifes proudest achievements.
That sounds like a cool app. I’m in the USA

Nextdoor is ok for selling. But the social part is an absolute shithole of insane people.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve heard of this one before, but not that familiar with it.
Is there any benefits/drawbacks to this one vs. fb marketplace?

Not FB market but a Fedi alternative to Etsy https://artisans.coop/
Not really what I asked for, no, but I’m super glad to know about it though! Thank you!
Kijiji is pretty popular in Canada. Varagesale is another one I’ve seen.
Not really what you asked for, but here in germany exist networks of big telegram groups where people give away their stuff for free. Maybe something like it exists also where you live.
Here theyre called “natural ressources”
Gumtree for australia.
