Cats alone in a room with an open flame is a recipe for disaster, don’t do it.
(this cat had good instincts, but many cats don’t seem to understand what fire is and would not react this way)

Jfc, I couldn’t watch past the point where the fire catches even if the cat made it, just imagining the panic, it’s a no from me…
But yes, this is a perfect illustration of my point.

Thanks for that, what I assume happened is the dog got scared first and startled the cat which is how the fire went out or something along those lines anyway, but watching any of that happen? My heart can’t take it 😅

No startling whatsoever. The cat just watches like “Huh, that’s interesting” while the dog walks around confused.

Very understandable! I was a little concerned when I looked up “cat tail fire gif”, but luckily all the first results were the one I wanted. Couldn’t bear to watch a cat get hurt :(

Funnily enough the cats tail catches on fire, and the cat just stares at it, and that’s enough to put the fire out somehow :D

yes. what we have here is a photo of a cat, and a photo of a woman who just clogged their sink drain in a very bad way. the story of the “out of hand candle” is very clearly not real, this is honestly the first lemmy post I’ve seen similar to the ones that made me stop going on reddit

The cat knocked it over and it started to burn the carpet.

…Or you know, the whole story is some made-up BS but people will upvote it anyways.

I read it as “i left it unattended and set up in an unsafe manner to begin with.” Lady is lucky the cat hissed.

Lady’s lucky the cat didn’t go up, run around, and burn the whole place down.

I like candles…but I only buy the big jars and won’t leave one unattended at all until the flames are below the top of the jar. Can’t imagine using tiny candle containers like this when you have a cat.

If the surface of the wax overheats the whole surface can catch fire not just the wick.

Wax, when vaporized, is highly flammable. If the surface gets hot enough it starts vaporizing.

This more often happens when the wax is low and more heat is trapped by the sides of the jar. Or if you’re a stupid kid and try to heat things with a candle.

The flames can actually be quite large

so you’re telling me this cat extinguished a large flame by hissing at it?

One time my cat got up on the table and just walked by a candle and lit his tail on fire and didn’t even notice
